Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing in the German international and Liverpool are ready to meet his reported £20m release clause and the 25 year old has turned down the offer of a new deal from his Westfalenstadion employers.

Reus wants a contract worth £180k a week and is apparently willing to join Liverpool if they make such an offer.

Reus could offer Liverpool a solid link between midfield and attack or could perhaps be a player Rodgers would use in a striking role, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man having a healthy strike rate.

Won't happen, he's off to Bayern.
“You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it.”

Exactly  :nod

Yea when 95% of the forum enjoy and appreciate the time put in to keep us up to date, it's easy to avoid the couple of people who continually complain about it for some inexplicable reason.

Aye, I agree. It's nice to dream of the players we all want to see wearing the shirt we all love, and you save us a lot of wading through the press, even if it is just rumours.
As for the point regarding Valdes, the transfer window is irrelevant. He's a free agent and can join a club any time, apparently.

Liverpool’s loss of faith in Mario Balotelli has prompted the club to make a £31m bid for Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.

The Reds had a £22m bid plus Lucas Leiva rejected for the striker in the summer while the Gunners tried to snap up the Argentine one year ago before missing out to the Serie A side.

And according to the Express, Liverpool have now increased their offer for the player as they look to fill the void left by Luis Suarez.

Boss Brendan Rodgers signed Balotelli but he has yet to impress with him still goalless in the Premier League, while he now faces a fine after his shirt-swapping episode at half-time with Real Madrid’s Pepe.

Higuain, whose side failed to qualify for the Champions League this season, has scored two goals so far and assisted three, but is yet to get himself off the mark in Serie A.

The 26-year-old has reportedly grown unhappy with life in Italy and is now ready for a change.

I hope that's the case mate, Gonzalo Higuain would be a great addition. Could be seen as BR changing his strategy from playing MB alone up front and creating a proper twin striker combo that will suit Mario's style of play. Game on.

Of course the negative moaners here will see it as MB being a failure and having to replace him but that's why they lack vision.

Napoli are ready to open talks with Liverpool over a deal to sign flop forward Mario Balotelli in the January transfer window.

Balotelli, who only joined the Reds from AC Milan three months ago, has endured a frustrating time at Anfield so far – and is yet to score a Premier League goal for them.

But while his stock might have fallen on Merseyside, it remains high in his native Italy, with reports suggesting Napoli are ready to begin negotiations over a deal.

It’s thought that Rafael Benitez would be prepared to offer about £10million to bring Balotelli back to Serie A in the new year.

Liverpool would be able to recoup a large chunk of the £16million their paid Milan for the striker, and could invest the money in West Brom’s Saido Berahino.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have been handed a giant boost in their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven starlet Zakaria Bakkali.

The highly-rated youngster has sent shockwaves throughout Europe after refusing to sign a contract extension with the Dutch side.

As a result of his desire to leave the Eredivisie, manager Phillip Cocu has opted to freeze the 18-year-old out of the side, and demote him to the U21s.

Bakkali made 16 appearances for the senior team last campaign, netting three along the way - but hasn't been used once in PSV's opening 10 games.

The Belgians obvious desire for a move abroad is likely to see the English quartet fight for his elusive signature either in January or the summer.

But the English clubs won't have it all their own way - Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are also potential suitors.

Bakkali enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence - easily adjusting from PSV's youth side to the physical demands of the first team (and back again!)

The 18-year-old's presence has not gone unnoticed by national team boss Marc Wilmots - who awarded the youngster his first cap.

Bakkali is part of Belgium's newly dubbed 'golden generation' - and could emulate adopted Premier League stars Eden Hazard, Kevin Mirallas and Marouane Fellaini.

The agent of Cologne goalkeeper Timo Horn has played down speculation linking his client with a move to Liverpool, describing it as "just normal."

Horn, 21, is currently in his third season at the Bundesliga club, and following two years in the second tier, the homegrown youngster has so far enjoyed an impressive start to his top-flight career.

He has only conceded seven goals in his first nine league games, while he could help Cologne set a new record for a newly-promoted team on Sunday against Freiburg.

They have already equalled the record of least goals conceded after nine games, joining Bayern Munich's 1965-66 side and Arminia Bielefeld's 2004-05 team. Both clubs, however, conceded goals in their 10th game, and a clean sheet for Horn on Sunday would hand the record to Cologne.

On Tuesday, Horn also saved two penalties in a shootout at MSV Duisburg in the DFB-Pokal to take his side into the next round.

His performances have not gone unnoticed in England, with the Liverpool Echo earlier this week naming the goalkeeper as a possible target for Liverpool.

"It's just normal that the youngest Bundesliga keeper is monitored by clubs abroad," Horn's agent Volker Struth told kicker.

Cologne, however, are keen to keep hold of a player who came through the ranks of their youth academy.

"We are in good talks and hope to reach an agreement before the winter break," sporting director Jorg Schmadkte told kicker about their plans to extend Horn's contract, which is currently due to expire in 2016.

Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs reveals Ricardo Rodriguez will not be heading to England in January.

The left-back arrived in the Bundesliga in 2012 and has since been heavily linked with a high-profile move to the Premier League.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been credited with an interest in the Switzerland international, who was valued at £15m before his impressive performances at the World Cup.

However, Allofs insists the 22-year-old won't be leaving before his contract expires in two years time. The German outfit also remain optimistic of tying the defender down to a new deal.

He said: "Ricardo Rodriguez is under contract until June 2016.

"It doesn't matter if we aren't able to agree a new deal with him, we will not agree to an early departure."
