Posted on sky sports news 10 mins ago...  Sky Sports understands that Liverpool's head of recruitment Dave Fallows has travelled to the Ukraine to hold talks with Konoplyanka.

At least we have a name for the person to blame should this one go tits up  :rasp

On the little I've seen of Konoplyanka, mainly from the Euro's, one thing that impressed me was that in addition to his obvious skill the fella's no chicken. Massively determined and not afraid to get stuck in, in terms of temperament alone just the kind of player I like to see us sign.

Still concerned that maybe, given his role, he shouldn't be a priority signing for us but at the same time I'd be delighted if we can bag this fella, I reckon in terms of contribution he would p'iss all over the Gyppo thats joined Chelsea.

He's extremely versatile which helps. Can play on either flank or as a playmaker. He's also played upfront in the past. Maybe this signals that we're looking at playing Coutinho a bit deeper where he was a revelation yesterday.

Oh and he's lightning quick.

I get a feeling BR has spoke to the owners and shown his discontent with the transfer situation. Funny how we aren't signing anyone then within 48 hours we are!

I didn't know who Konoplyanka was last year when we were linked with him, but as I looked into him I was really impressed. I'd be really happy if this one came off. He can play in the center and out wide so it really does give us options. We'd finally have a little bit of depth in our squad. If you take away a few of our injuries and add him to the squad, we'd have 5 or 6 who could play in the middle, 4 or so who can play out wide, 2 who can play that striker role, 4 decent cvs, and a couple decent fullbacks in Flanno and Enrique.

We get fit, we may actually begin to look decent.

This is confusing, Just heard that it might not be David Fallows, but Ian Ayre sorting out the deal (Oh, no!). DF has not travelled, and IA is trying to sort it, but he hasn't travelled to the Ukraine, who knows what is going on, I just know that whoever it is better get it done pronto.

if Ayres is in charge of 'wrapping the deal up' then I won't hold my breath. He'll be sight seeing.

Clearly something has happened behind the scenes, probably out of the frustration over the Salah fiasco.

Rodgers goes from saying we're unlikely to do business unless it's a loan signing to come in and make an immediate impact (in the aftermath of Salah going to Chelsea) to saying he hopes a major deal can be completed before Friday, within the space of only a few days.

I think the Yanks do value fans' opinions.  They knew we weren't happy after 'Dempsey-gate' and responded by having deals lined up for Coutinho and Sturridge almost as soon as the next window opened.  I think they'll have been annoyed at how the Salah deal went and more importantly how vocal the fans were in their frustrations.  The Ukrainian I reckon was a summer target but they're maybe willing to put a bit more cash than they wanted in now to get him early and make up for it (We wouldn't go above 10 mil for Salah I hear, yet we're willing to go to nearer 20 for this guy).

That's my opinion anyway, I hope they have done their homework on this guy and he's not a panic buy.  Surely.

I don't think this has anything to do with the owners having a last minute change of heart. I think they allocated a certain amount of money and its the money men below them that have been fking it up.
Rogers was talking about 2 or 3 before the window started so I think there was always X amount to be spent. We need a proper CEO
