Soton have had a good offseason. Them and Norwich could cause some problems.

There are still fears on Merseyside that a new bid close to £50million could see Arsenal sign Luis Suarez.

And with Tottenham and Manchester United now trying to hijack Liverpool’s move for top target Willian, the Anfield giants want to ensure they are not left short of attacking options.

Brendan Rodgers has large funds available for a marquee signing before the transfer window closes.

The club have already missed out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who chose Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa – and the Reds are concerned the same thing could yet happen with Anzhi Makhachkala’s exciting attacker Willian, 25.

Liverpool have back-up options in place as potential major signings though.

And Sunday People Sport understands Brazilian forward Damiao, 24, is on that list.

The Internacional striker has long been pursued by Tottenham, but they found it difficult to negotiate a deal.

Damiao still wants a move to Europe though, and manager Rodgers believes he has the quality that can take the Reds’ forward line to the next level.

Star man Suarez has apologised to team-mates at Liverpool and is back in first team training.

But even if he stays, Liverpool realise they must help him on the goal front if the side are to push for a top-four place.

i dont know why they are reporting that there are fears on merseyside that a £50m bid could see suarez moving to arsenal, i think john henry and brendan rodgers made it pretty clear that arsenal are probably the last club we`d sell suarez to, real madrid maybe but arsenal - no chance.
and i hope thats not true about us being muscled out of a deal for willian, he is exactly the type of player we need, this damiao is no doubt a good player but he is an out and out striker and if he arrives it will be musical chairs in our forward line with sturridge being shoved out wide etc (where he doesnt want to play).
we should try to move heaven and earth to sign willian.

My Brazilian contacts :) mainly a Brazilian chap ,claims Damiao is a much better player then Willian ,however not playing the same position as mentioned.

Solution, Sell Suarez ,bring Damaio and Willian and start our Samba class at Anfield. Use the Change to look for a CB.

I've watched a fair bit of Damiao, and to be honest, I don't get the hype with this guy. Not entirely convinced is is suited to english football

No to Damiao, we already have enough upfront (when Suarez is back)... Bring in Willian and a CB...

The Times - Willian will decide by tomorrow whether to move to Tottenham after they hijacked his proposed move to Liverpool last night.

We joke about it, but the frequency of these transfer hijacks by spurs cannot be coincidental. I honestly believe this is a competitive tactic that spurs are employing to neutralise out threat to them.

Yea I don't see why we leave it alone.. It doesn't seem the players want to go to spurs more than us, spurs just pay more. At this point, we need to start returning the favor and at least forcing the price up on their transfers. They had no competition in signing the likes of Holtby, Paulinho Capoue and Chadil.

It's getting beyond annoying at this point.

Liverpool remain confident of signing Anzhi playmaker Willian despite Tottenham's revived interest.

Spurs' interest in the highly-rated Brazil international predates his move to Anzhi in January and have renewed their efforts as the Reds continue to negotiate with the Russian club, whose billionaire owner Suleiman Kerimov is attempting to strip away their heavyweight squad.

A deal in the region of £30million is currently being thrashed out between the sides but Tottenham, themselves looking to secure Champions League qualification this season, are planning to hijack the move for the 25-year-old, who has made no secret of his desire to move to the Premier League.

Liverpool, however, are prepared to match Willian's £100,000-a-week salary in a bid to land a marquee signing this summer after losing out on his former Shakhtar Donetsk teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Borussia Dortmund and failing to lure Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa to Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers revealed last weekend that he was confident of drafting in 'one or two' players before the close of the transfer window next month and looks set to add Aly Cissokho to his ranks in the coming days after Liverpool agreed a season-long loan with Valencia for the left-back.

Just one quick question, where the f**k are Spuds getting the money to fund ANOTHER 30m player??????

So far they have already spent over 60m yeah?

If they don't end up selling Bale they could potentially have spent over 90m in ONE transfer window.

Would be most satisfying to finish above these mofos at the end of the season.

I take it as they know Bale is gone. THey are spending the money before they get it. I think Bale is refusing to even play for them right now, foot injury my *****. They are going after a player that is best played in Bale's position in Willian, so I assume they are spending the future transfer of him, they just figure if players assume they're being brought in so Bale will stay and fight, it will be easier to persuade even tho they don't have champions league.

Well Spurs have been after Willian for a while - bid for him in Jan i think it was.

And Spurs beat us to two available players last summer. Not many teams will buy players just to stop other clubs getting them. The media mention Spurs every time we are linked to a player because of both Sigurdsson and Dempsey. We are both trying to get into CL so at times we will be linked to the same sort of players and at times both be bidding for the same player.
