Oh I dunno, I'd quite like to see him play in the Premiership. I'd have no complaints if Newcastle, West Ham or one of those teams bought him (not that it's likely to happen). In actual fact I'll bet anything you like Keegan is absolutely drooling over this lads performances in the Euro's.

Scolari's talking about cleaning house, mate.  It remains to be seen if he rates Joe Cole highly enough to keep him or start him. (A crazy thought, I know, but Scolari very much strikes me as a man who knows his own mind and is not afraid to get rid of quality players.)

I hear what you're saying, Mick: he'd be a delight to watch play in England week in, week out and he alone wouldn't improve the likes of Newcastle so much that they'd storm the league or anything silly like that.  However, if he did go to a mid-table English club I'd be gutted because, surely, we could have pipped the likes of the Geordies and the 'Appy 'Ammers to get this fella's signature?  He's just too good to not be playing for a top side.  As it happens, I have something of a similar feeling about Modric but time will tell whether he'll flourish in England or just get smothered.

Harry confirms Yossi interest

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Liverpool's Israel international midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

Benayoun is reportedly frustrated at a lack of opportunities at Anfield, triggering a host of interest from Premier League rivals.

Manchester City's new boss Mark Hughes has been linked with the 28-year-old, but Pompey have now joined the queue for his signature.

Redknapp believes the former Racing Santander man would be a quality addition to his squad, although he is unsure of his availability.

"Of course I'd like to have someone like Yossi Benayoun," he told Portsmouth's The News.

"He's a top player. I don't know what the chances are of getting him out of Liverpool."

The former West Ham manager is also keen on Peter Crouch but thinks he cannot match the Reds' valuation of the England international.

"It's known I like Crouchie, too. But I think Liverpool want a bit too much money for him," he continued.

"If that's the case then we'll move on to the next option."

If the story in the Echo about H&G having a 100 million credit crunch (see H&G thread) is true then I guess we may as well close this thread. They´re acting chummy to reassure the banks if they lend to them they´re not about to sell out, but in reality it looks like we´re up the Khyber withoutt a paddle. If we have such fundemental finance problems how can we afford to splash out on players?

Rafa Benitez is ready to press Liverpool's owners for an answer on his transfer budget after lining up over £50million-worth of targets but fearing he will be denied the funds to bring them all to Anfield.

The Liverpool manager wants to pursue his interest in Valencia pair David Villa and David Silva, as well as Aston Villa's England midfielder Gareth Barry, but has yet to receive any signal from co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett that their improving relationship will lead to more cash being made available

Jun 24 2008  EXCLUSIVE by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL boss Rafael Benitez today rubbished reports claiming he has demanded a £50m transfer fund from the club's American owners.

The Reds boss woke up this morning to several stories which suggested he was risking Anfield’s fragile peace pact by demanding money for David Villa, Daniel Alves and David Silva – as well as Gareth Barry.

But Benitez says he has not spoken to any journalists and has no idea where the reports originated.

“The stories are ridiculous. Total rubbish,” said Benitez.

“They have me trying to sign Daniel Alves, who already has an agreement with Barcelona, so how could I be trying to sign him?

“I am working hard with Rick Parry, who is in regular contact with the Americans, and there are no problems.

“The reports are just unbelievable.”

Benitez has accepted that he must juggle his resources this summer, moving some players on to bring in others.

He has already moved on John Arne Riise, and Andrea Dossena will put pen to paper on a £7m transfer from Udinese as soon as he returns from honeymoon.

Benitez is also trying to reach agreement with Aston Villa over Gareth Barry’s transfer as the next priority.

I know mate , but i doubt he'd sell joe cole or drop him to the bench , anyone can see he's a class player , even scolari . Roman's gonna attach his puppet strings too scolari soon so we'll see what happens

Heard we're after Marko Marin.  Never seen him play but he looks impressive on youtube.

I was talking about Marko Marin on here a couple of weeks before the Euros, I would love him at the club, he just barely missed out on making the German squad.

Don't we have a good relationship with Borussia Mönchengladbach? I am sure they would rather sell to us than Bayern.

Must have missed that, but I heard he's highly rated in Germany.  It looks like he's got a lot of pace and he's great on the ball.  Certainly would be an interesting signing if it were true.

Updated: June 20, 2008, 8:11 AM ET

Germany striker Lukas Podolski has again hinted he could be on his way out of Bayern Munich.

Podolski will consider his future at the German champions if he is not in new coach Jurgen Klinsmann's first-team plans.

According to reports in Germany, Premier League sides Tottenham and Manchester City, former club Cologne and Italian giants Juventus are all interested in signing the 23-year-old.

Podolski, who is currently with the Germany squad at Euro 2008, told the Bild newspaper: 'For me what matters at the moment is the Euros. And afterwards I will think about everything else.

'But if I can't see the possibility of playing under Jurgen Klinsmann, you have to ponder (the future). I am not a footballer to sit on the bench.'

Podolski is under contract at the Allianz Arena until 2010, but has struggled to find his feet at Bayern since his big-money move from Cologne in 2006.

He had to settle for a place on the bench for large parts of last season after falling behind international team-mate Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni.

and now the official has linked us with him  :D

ARSHAVIN, PODOLSKI OR VILLA?
Jimmy Rice 24 June 2008
It's that time of year again when the papers are full of transfer speculation – and the rumour mill is turning even faster due to Euro 2008. But which of the tournament's stars do you think could cut it at Liverpool?
Is it Spain playmaker David Silva or his teammate David Villa? What about Andrei Arshavin for the Russians? Then there's Lukas Podolski, who's helped the Germans reach the semi-finals of yet another major tournament?

I wouldn't be against a complete German Blitzkrieg with us going after any one or two of Diego, Marko Marin, Shweinsteiger, Lahm, Podolski, or Bayerns 18 year old starlet Toni Kroos. I particularly would like the just turned 23 year old Podolski who I think would instantly take Babel's spot away in teh current formation. He can operate out wide, has a GREAT left foot, can provide as well as score, should be hungry for a run of games, can score in big tournaments. Then let rafa choose between babel on kuyt for who plays on the right.
