Samba star set to sign    Thu, Jun 29 2006 12:26
Rafa Benitez is set to complete the signing of Brazilian left-back Fabio Aurelio this weekend on a free transfer from Valencia.
The 27-year-old has already agreed terms over an Anfield switch and will rubber-stamp the deal on Saturday.
Aurelio's current contract in Spain will expire at midnight on June 30, leaving the way clear for him to put pen to paper on a four-year agreement the following day.

The full-back moved to La Mestalla in 2000 from Brazilian side Sao Paolo and worked under Reds boss Benitez from 2001, until the coach arrived on Merseyside two years ago.

A target for La Liga rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as Greek club Olympiakos, Aurelio's desire to link up with Benitez for a second spell has proved crucial.

The Brazilian's arrival at Anfield will take the Reds' summer additions to three, following Gabriel Paletta and Craig Bellamy's recruitment.

Fabio Aurelio has revealed his reasons for leaving Valencia for Liverpool.

The Brazilian is set to join Liverpool this weekend on a free transfer when his contract at La Mestalla expires.

The move has been mooted for some time with Reds boss Rafa Benitez a big fan of the player having worked with him at Valencia.

Aurelio, who is expected to sign a four-year deal at Liverpool, admitted the chance to work with Benitez again was too good to turn down.

"It is a sporting decision why I have decided my future and I have greater possibilities to grow as a player," Aurelio told Marca.

"The comfortable thing would have been to have stayed because my family was adapted and we have many friends, but I have objectives and one of them is to get in the Brazil squad.

"I am going to a new club in which the trainer knows me, to see if I can conquer the objectives I have set myself.

"The most important moments I had in my career were the titles (with Valencia) and that was with Benitez.

"He trusted me and he continues to trust me and that is what I value more."

Aurelio admitted he was sad to be leaving Valencia after six years in Spain.

"I am sad to leave a place in which I have been very happy," added Aurelio.

"They welcomed me very well and this city is like my home.

"It is always difficult to leave your home."

--------------

Rafa plays a huge part again I see. Even though he was worked with him before, he knows Rafa's abilities and Rafa knows Fabio's abilities. I think this guy will be a hit.

It's looking a bit dodgy now.

I hope we sign him - according to reports, he's top player.

The LFC Official site have this profile ready to go online - so he has signed, or is about to:

Also Rafa mentioned him in the condolences to the people of Valencia.
