I thought he perhaps had a touch of a young Alexandra Hleb about him in posession, but maybe not.

he doesn't remind me of Aquilani, that's for sure  :D

But, i'm going to stick my neck out and say...he reminds me of Alonso.  :nod

now, if he turns out like Alonso is another matter...

i think a cross between Alonso and Veira

For all the stick Aquilani gets on here, if it weren't for his nagging health record I think he could have been a fantastic player for us.. Obviously that wasn't the case but oh well.. As for Meireles, I think he could play a holding role or a more attacking role in the midfield quite well, it just depends what Roy wants out of him.  He seems to be an all around player but imo I don't think having him be responsible of attacking and defending is beneficial to us so he'll more than likely fill one role or the other.  He's a mix between Alonso and Aquilani for me.  Alonso could read a game well and made timely tackles that kind of went by unnoticed, his positioning was sound.  And Aqua loved to play the give and go like Meireles does.  Both had good vision and patience and could strike a ball well.

Think he will look and play much better with better players around him . He looks to play quick first time balls to feet and move on for the next . I like the look of him but i'm a shabite judge . Apart from Lucas that is who is ace !!!!

Aquilani: 7 assists and 2 goals
Conveniently forgotten by some...

Your letting your love of Aquilani cloud your judgement - you do realise Aquilani didn't even play tonight because he was injured yet again .

Mate, it was his first game with Liverpool and with an english club in general, give him some time, OK?

I know that this guy is very good, I actully once thougt that he would be ideal for LFC, used to think once when Alonso was still here, that him and Meireles would be a great duo in the midfield. So this is something like a dream come true :D only we have no Alonso any more :(

The passes Lucas makes do not create any space for the players but the little 1-2's Meireles was playing later in the match are the type of stuff we need to make space for everyone else, things like that or Alonso's long range passing create space while what Lucas and Poulson do just makes it harder and harder for everyone to get some breathing room from defenders, they know all they have to do is pressure more and more before we start hoofing it downfield.

am sorry your making excuses for meireles he was rubbish tonight. Lucas is better than him never mind aquilani!

Quit your yibber yabber! Look i really like Aqua ,thought he was a special talent but he's gone alright, get over it!

On Raul i thought he moved the ball well, has really good off ball movement, does his fare share of getting forward and getting back, all in all a good game from him and he can only improve.

And on the Aqua front, i liked him but most of his goals and assists came against decent to average teams, only Athletico Madrid he did it against a good team, so quit your whining and en joy Meireles, some teams would love to have a player of his calibre!

You my friend are CLEARLY being very stubborn over this  :D

Look I friggin loved Aquilani, thought he was great for us despite what people said. Really sad that he's gone.

But Meireles is a much more secure player. He has a bit of muscle, has a good injury record and is a good all round midfielder. Probably not as good attacking wise as Aquilani was, but a better player for the club because he is more versatile and wont get injured much.

It's far too early to tell after one full game. I thought Spearing played really well, constantly making himself available for the ball and looking to distribute it forwards as well as sideways/backwards (which has been his tendency in the past). Raul seemed to float in and out of possession rather than demanding it like Spearing but once the players get used to his positional play i'm sure he'll see more of the ball.

Too early to tell so I look forward to seeing him play more so we can really see how good he is!
