ALBERTO AQUILANI - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

It boggles my mind how people dont rate Aquilani

He has just came from a different league after recovering from a serious injury. Over a year out from football.

Rafa has bearly gave him a chance to impress. He has started 6 games for us and has already had 6 assists and one goal. This guy is 2nd in our assists leaderboard, Gerrard comes before him at 7 assists.

I get the feeling that people dont rate him because he isnt playing. Well that is Rafa's fault, not Aquilani's. He is a miles better player than Lucas its just Rafa for some Bizarre reason deciding not to play him.

Cant be ersed reading 80 pages mate.

The only comments in recent pages are that he has been a poor signing.
And i stand by that.

Benny - he was fit against West Ham last week and an unused sub, so Rafa mustnt rate him as highly as you.

Why did he need to play when we won comfortably so the team selected on the day was spot on .

This is turning into a farce
The mans record speaks for itself. Maybe he should have had an assist in every game he played in? Correct me if Im wrong but Alonso didnt do that.  In fact could someone give us the assist record for Alonso per season in his time here please?
I believe people are angry with Rafa at what happened with him Fu*king things up with Alonso. This anger has been aimed unfairly at his "replacement", which Rafa said he wasnt. If Rafa bought him and doesnt play him when hes fit then is Rafa not a prize idiot? People saying he is a bad signing and not suited to the PL are talking absolute bo'llocks.
Can they explain why hes got so many assists? Or is he just "lucky"?

He must have made about twice as many assists as Lucas has and in a fraction of the time, and although you wouldn't expect that rate to continue, it is glaring evidence of the difference in class between the two players. The best evidence of course is that you simply don't see Lucas making the same types of passes or runs as often or with the same quality as Aquilani. The sorts of qualities that open things up.

The other point is whether he is a "bad signing". It's lead to a bit of confusion as some people clearly use the term to imply he's simply not good enough, whereas others use it to argue he's been underutilised. My own view is that he's clearly been underutilised but I accept there's more than a good chance we've overpaid. At any rate, the decision to sign him or the decison not to use him has cost us dearly this season.

you argue just for the sake of it.

That post shows this clearly  :no

You think Aquilani is a better player than Lucas dont you ?
Do you also agree that Aquilani at home to west ham would be a better option than Lucas ?

Would there be any reason for Rafa not to select him bearing in mind he didnt play Thurs against Athletico either ?

I do believe Aquilani is a more technically gifted player than lucas but i also believe Rafa selected a side to win the game and succeeded . The fact Aquilani didnt play doesnt bother me cause we got a victory .

So you dont question why he was totally bombed ?
Not even brought on when we were so dominant ?
The game was tailor made for him.

If you rate the lad as high as you say you do then surely you would be a little confused by that ?

Not really - we were winning and winning quite comfortably so the lads on the pitch were doing the job well enough .
