I think he needs to get tougher and maybe even nasty. I don't mean being dirty but kind of like "Don't mess with me kind of attitude". If he is able to do that, he should be ok. But so far, he is being knock off in just able every close encounter and falls down too easily. Right now, he isn't suited to play in EPL yet. Should give him some time but I kind of worried his value will slip if he can't improve both physically and mentally after we give him time. Anyway, hope he can prove me wrong. Just wondering who has bought his jersey already. :D

He needs to stay injury free. That is his biggest problem.
From what I have seen he is our most skilled cm besides Gerrard and from a skill perspective I don't we can afford any better.

The problem is that he needs to stay injury free.

What the lad needs, above all else, is a consistent run of games.

But I fear that Benitez has already crossed him off of his Christmas list.

I think many forget that this has been the lads first (part becuase of injury) season in the EPL and, like 99% of foreign players coming to this country/league, he would have taken time to settle even if he had been 100% fit from day one.

I have seen enough of the lad to convince me that he is a very good footballer who has a good/quick footballing brain, likes a pass and has an eye for goal (evident on his willingness to have a pop at goal).

He might not yet be up to the physical demands of the EPL but in terms of ability, skills and footballing head I think he has it all in his locker. I admit to having doubts about his fitness and injury record but get that sorted and we have a real player on our hands here.

Quote Reg " Dont get in the way of the manic depressives Fauxy, they're on a mission."

Bad advice that Reg. Manic depressives such as yourself try your best to bring everyone down, but with determination you can be swerved, and people can be optimists.

You see when you get all depressed and tell all and sundry that the best we can hope for under these owners is mediocrity, I disagree. I AM POSITIVE, OPTIMISTIC that we can do a lot better than being neck and neck with Birmingham all season before finally getting the better of them. You might try and convince everyone that in actual fact it is unrealistic to expect to finish above Aston Villa, you would given your negative and depressive stance, but I don't agree because I AM POSITIVE AND OPTIMISTIC.

You probably buy into the depressives mantra that so far has our star fallen that Roy Hodgson would laugh at the prospect of managing us, Martin O' Neill would c0ck a snook (whatever the feck that is). Alex Mcgleish wouldn't even consider it, leaving the way open for the only two candidates on planet Earth who would apply, namely Neil Warnock and Glenn Roeder. I don't buy that at all, because I AM POSITIVE AND OPTIMISTIC that we are still a great football club who the premier managers in the World today would be falling over themselves to take on.

You might tell people that negativity and depressionis the only way, but for too long you and others like you have bleated on here about nasty people not agreeing with you. You and others cry in your beer if anyone dares to point out that we've actually got a good team, with good players. You dampen down any positivity by telling us we can forget about doing well, we are destined only for mid table mediocrity.

From today, I think it's time for us positivos to fight back. Shout it from the rooftops. We ARE A GOOD TEAM AND WE HAVE GOOD PLAYERS. We CAN CHALLENGE FOR THE TITLE NEXT SEASON, EVEN IF WE DON'T SIGN ANYBODY. IF WE DRAW READING IN THE FA CUP NEXT SEASON, AND MANAGE TO EEK OUT A DRAW AT THEIR PLACE, WE WILL BEAT THEM AT HOME, WE MIGHT EVEN WIN AT THEIR PLACE YOU NEVER KNOW. WE WON'T LOSE 15 TIMES IN THE SEASON, NOR WILL WE SPEND 20 MILLION QUID ANY MORE ON PLAYERS WE DON'T ACTUALLY WANT.

Shout it from the rooftops Fauxy and don't let the negativos drag you down, THINGS WILL GET BETTER.

How much did United pay for Hargreaves again (who hasn't played a single game for nearly two years by the way)? I don't hear Ferguson getting slated for paying so much for him, despite the fact that he had a dreadful injury history before joining United like Aquilani did at Roma.

Not to mention Berbatov (£30m), Anderson and Nani (£30m between them) and Carrick (£18m). Carrick isn't even a regular and has had a dreadful season, Nani has 1 good game in 5, Anderson is out on loan I think and Berbatov just isn't a United player.

Everyone wastes money. Unfortunately every mistake we make is magnified due to our perilous financial state. We're not in the position that the likes of United, Chelsea and City are in whereby if they get a major signing wrong (Shevchenko, Veron) they can just move them on and get somebody else in. Even when Rafa gets signings right (I still think Johnson will be worth the transfer fee we paid for him for example) he gets slated by our own fans for paying over the odds. He can't win.

Agreed in principle, however 3 Premierships, couple of domestic trophies, 1 European Cup (and one further European Cup final appearance) in the last 3 years sort of lets you off the hook a bit, just my opinion of course.

My opinion of Aquilani uis ever-changing. I thought he looked a good buy after his first couple of performances, was horrified by his lack of defensive effort and prescence shortly after (The Cup game against Reading really did it for me) and completely wrote him off. However, a couple of his recent games, the 3-0 home win against Pompey and the 0-0 at the weekend had me thinking we might have a player on our hands. It's a difficult one to judge, particularly as you have to wonder if the manager is still glad he bought the player? His lack of games since getting over the injury tells us that he probably isn't. On the context of this season he was a clusterf...u...c...k of a purchase. Next season (and beyond) he might work out. But with the right set-up, the right system and dare I say it, the right manager.

I still don't know how ANYONE can make a serious judgement call on Aquilani as Benitez hasn't played much.

My Jury is still out anyway.
