I'm not sold on Baros one way or the other right now. I think we can all see what he does well - He's skillfull, can make space for himself in and around the box, has a decent shot, chases lost causes an scores his fair share when he gets games. On the down side, his awareness of teamates is poor, he often takes 2,3,4 touches when 1 will do, he can be greedy and he can't head for toffee.

You could say that awareness is an attribute a player will develop early in his career i.e. if you have it, you have it If you don't, you don't but i think with the right coaching (an i think we all believe we have the right coach) Baros can improve this area of his game regardless of how old he is. Just look how much Andy Cole changed after two years with Fergie - He was a completely different player and he must have been around the same age as Baros. I also see no reason why Baros can't improve his heading and hold-up play. Not saying he will be world class but he can get better.
How many games has Milan played for us? Anyone know? Shame Owzat isn't on the boards anymore as he was always a stato.

Last time I checked strikers were supposed to be greedy, their job is to score.

Watch Arsenal play. Their players NEVER shoot if a teamate is better placed to do so. Notice so may of their goals come from unselfish square balls within the box.

Thierry Henry was the top goal-scorer of the Premiership last season, he is now assisting more than he is scoring to get Reyes involved in the game. He could had easily scored all the goals Arsenal have scored by himself this season.

Lad I ALWAYS admit when i'm wrong about players. But the thing is i never make outrageous comments on players unless its blatently obvious.

I.E. i don't say certain players will become world class if they aren't as good at a young age as the likes of Owen, Gerrard, Fowler, Rooney etc.

I don't say players are ****** when they aren't and i don't don't stupidly overate players down to them being media darlings I.E. Frank Lampard.

i agree we need a poacher. baros isnt that. that makes no difference to how good a player he is.

If Baros gets 20 to 25 goals this season I'll be happy to be laughed at Jim but I sincerely doubt it.

If he learns to lay off the ball more at the edge of the box and makes little darting runs towards the opposition keeper then he could get a lot of goals. However, I stand by what I said above and if Baros continues to play like he does he'll get 10 spectacular goals this season and 5 or 6 handy ones, but no more.

stu i didnt say you were makin outrageous comments about his ability.
i was abit baffled by the comments like "if he's scoring golas the rest of the team wont" etc etc

there's no evidence for this whatsoever. i think you have his ability level spot on, but you dont seem to take into account the fact  he hasnt had a proper chance to develop his raw talent, like all those other starlets have.

I agree. How do you expect a player who for the most of his career at a club has been injured and has been benched to develop their talent? You can't, it makes no sense. He still needs more games to play, he hasn't had a full-season start yet while Fowler and Owen both had season starts to develop their talent.

I wasn't at the game yeasterday an i don't have Sky so i had to rely on MOTD's shoddy highlights last night. Assume JBG an Stu got to the game, how did Milan an Cisse work as a partnership yesteday? sounded encouraging on the radio.

i'm not bein argumentative jbg. its all alot of if's and buts with the baros thing. he plays the way he plays for czech republic and scores for fun.
you cant really judge his record here yet but to me it looks like (when he starts) roughly 1 in 2 games. and a few as sub.
that would surely mean he'll bag 20 or more this season.
will he play the games though?

Don't get me wrong, I rate Baros as a player and I was one of the many grumbling last year over his non selection when he returned from injury.

However, the faults that always have been in his game persist, and I get the impression when I look at this fella its all "me me me". Since he was dropped this season he looks like he has a point to prove, which is good, but he'll be twice the player when he learns to bring other players into the play.

We now have a side where two players can dribble the ball into the box (Baros and Garcia) and if both players start laying it off to the likes of Cisse instead of over holding, then we'll go places.

i agree, and i think that he will develop this.

while he's not doing this though, he's still scoring goals.

Hopefully Jim.

One point I'd like to make about Michael Owen.

Yesterday we had two guys dribbling into the box creating chaos (Baros and Garcia) and two midfielders opening the game up with some fantastic passing (Alonso and Hamman).

We are getting far more good ball in the opposition box and I think Owen, if he was still here, would be having an absolute field day.

Its his loss.
