Alberto Aquilani in 90 minutes tonight... 1 goal, 1 assist, beautiful slick passing with movement.

Lucas in 41 games... 0 goals, 1 assist, and no passing range.... a "rabbit caught in headlights" when attempting anything. (his season contribution is minus with his own goal vs Villa)

A decent performance in 1 game from AA (now 5 wins in 5 when he's played most of the game) overtakes the 41 game "contribution" of the worst central midfielder to wear the red jersey since Paul Stewart... who has been at the heart of a whopping 15 losses this season.

We bought AA as the replacement for the imperious Alonso, but lucas (who had his bags packed expecting to be sold back to the substandard Brasil league in the Summer) has filled in to devastating consequence in the teams sole change from last year. Please God thats the end of him.

what does a good central midfielder do? control games rite...??? what does Lucas do...??? nothing rite...??? true... he plays like a destroyer on the field... he breaks up attacks but he also destroys our attacking impetus... he drags the team back and allows the opponents to regroup... so u think that's good...???
he does not make comfortable passes to his teammates... precious time is wasted in controlling his passes and moving forward... he does not think of that at all... so u think he's still good and steady???
of course... he can still improve... time is on his side... but he and Masch can never play together...!!! with 2 of them on the field at the same time, there will never be any creativity or attacking impetus in the team...!!!

I know 1 match does not make a summer but the difference in class and abilities between Aquilani and Lucas is so evident that I still can't understand why Rafa is so obsessed with the Brazillian. Aquilani oozes class and this is the type of top class player Torres desires to play with. Lucas is an average player AT BEST. I almost puke when I read posts raving about his CREATIVITY. Lucas has ZERO creativity. What he does on the pitch, any midfielder from the likes of Blackburn, Bolton or even Hull, Portsmouth can do too. His impact to the team is minimal, ok sorry maybe sometimes major - BUT at the wrong end of the pitch like scoring own goals, committing silly clumsy fouls etc.

What Torres said is very true, we need top class players in the team to challenge for the title. And this might even be a hint to Rafa to stop the nonsensical obsession and drop Lucas before Torres decides on his future. I want to make this clear - I've got nothing against Lucas. I know he has tried his best but his best is not good enough for a team like Liverpool. And being an average player is also not his fault. The fault lies with Rafa Benitez! So pls wake up Rafa! Play your best team! And that includes Aquilani NOT Lucas!

because lucas (like kuyt) is a yes man.. an obedient foot soldier who doesnt give any backchat (ie.Bellamy). rafa likes yes men, regardless of lack of talent.

Mascherano is the destroyer.. no team on planet Earth plays with two. Lucas is just a pi'spoor player who was bought as a quote "box to box goalscoring midfielder" and because hes laughably bad its now.. oh hes suddenly a destroyer  (hes a powder puff weakling who gets dominated on a weekly basis, and got tossed over like a girl by Blackburn player last week.. got up and was about to cry). Can u imagine lucas squaring up to Roy Keane? He'd pee right through his panties

Hes been at the heart of 15 losses... the only thing he destroys is us.

I love what the lad has given us but I agree with most of the posters on here, he just isn't good enough.  Especially if he is supposed to be the creative force in the midfield.  I don't mind him occassionally playing or being played alongside Aquilani but he doesn't have a place in our starting XI.

id say 99% of all people in football or fans of football would agree that 2 water carriers ---- lucas and mascherano together is a ridiculous midfield to be first team

leaving a creative playmaker (aqua) out is criminal

why cant rafa see this?

i dont mind having lucas as back up to mascherano (that would be fine) but now first team alongside him

For me either Lucas or Mascherano, not at the same time. Mascherano against sides that pose threats of an attacking kind, Lucas when we're looking to be more attacking and need less protection.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

everyone in football can see that

apart from rafa

would be alot easier to understand if with lucas/masherano all season we had an amazing defensive record and were hard to beat

but we aint, so i see no reason to play the two

what do u mean either?? A world class destroyer whom Barca rate at 30m and is the captain of Argentina... or a diabolical reserve player who had his bags packed in the summer prior to filling in for Alonso in the biggest downgrade at the club in living memory .

You make it sound as though its a choice. I assume you aren't being definitive with that statement, unless of course you are looking at worst case scenario that Masch leaves.

Exactly mate. I would say either with Mascher and Aqua or Mascher and SG. Lucas should not be in the same sentence....

i can't believe i keep coming on to this thread as it has to be full of more ignorant bullsh!t than the rest of the threads on the forum put together. i can't believe i'm still reading stuff from people who claim to watch football that lucas is a 'totally diabolical player' for example. or the classic 'he can't pass further than 5 yards and then its only sideways or backwards'. maybe there is some incredible freak of coincidence that every time lucas plays a forward pass into the box everyone blinks at the same time, or maybe some people just close their eyes to reality so they can keep on justifying their biased points of view.

fúcking clueless drivel from clueless people.

lucas is not a world class player and he's not showing 'young brazilian player of the year' standard either. but he is a tidy young player who has his off days just like the glorious gerrard, the glorious carragher and even the glorious torres. he's been doing a decent job in difficult circumstances and deserves the credit he's been getting from those that actually know what they are talking about.
