It's all a nightmare Reg..
When you wake up, you'll read all about a team from the north east of England, that hasn't lost on french soil in yers, went to Lille (where the fook is it, by the way ? ), and played attacking football right from the off, winning a handsome 4-0 away from home...

then....

you'll come down off your LSD-induced high....with a bang....

....and you'll realise...

........that the reality is far, far worse than a very sweaty Jo Brand in heat....

We lost, mate. Yep, we lost. To, ahhhhh. Lille,

From the Telegraph

Spanish press reaction: 'Goodbye Real Madrid, Goodbye Pellegrini'

Rafa's enjoyed remarkable support thus far but in all honesty... any other club in the world would give him the order of the boot after this season. How far can the manager and players stretch loyalty?

You know it's bad when you sit there watching and wonder WTF is wrong  with Stevie G..............???

In the past when his life has been dogged by Court Cases, Death Threats, Gangsters blackmailing his family, the Mrs shouting her gob off about why she doesn't like Liverpool anymore, the birth of his daughters and the other distractions that are part of the Soap that is professional sport these days  etc etc ..... He's always managed to produce it on the pitch but the man's gone invisible when we need him more than we have ever needed him !

OK in Istanbul we needed him...........

In Cardiff 2006 we needed him ..........

But these were Cup Finals which had we lost would have been disappointing to say the least and we would have been absolutely gutted but as a club at the moment we are on the precipice staring into the void and we need him to step up to the mark big time.

He's always been a complex character and it does make you wonder if he's already written off this season and is hoping for a change at the top. I sincerely hope not but to me he gives all the appearance of someone who has lost interest in the cause and is eyeing South Africa as his next meaningful goal !

I think Gerrard is not happy with the team (the system, the players, the manager etc). Last season he's happy because we're progerssing and we're challenging for the title..but something went wrong and that made him unhappy...
If the problem is outside of his footballing life, it wont effect his performance on the pitch..but this season it seems something get the best of him and i guess it's something related to our team...

Next week, just before...................................................the mancs on the SUNDAY - I guess they only play us on a Monday if a key player (rio) would be suspended on the Sunday *rolls eyes*

We were poor at the start, mediocre in the middle and let in a silly goal. I haven't read all posts, most seem to be more general than on the match, but I see the comments are still aimed at outfield players and no mention that Reina should have come for the ball.

Kuyt didn't have a great game overall, I think he tried to cover too much ground but did have a good spell in the first half when he was in the right half. Agree with views "he looked shot". Babel should have been shot, he looked a threat and just didn't convert that threat into anything. He wasted the one good one-on-one chance he had, can't fault him for the tackle which denied him another just before that I think it was. Also didn't he completely miss the ball when it came out from Torres' header?!? Ended up with Johnson too far out to be an immediate threat?

The only real plus for me last night was Torres, but given the space he had it was no surprise he ran at them and caused them problems. But supply to the front was lacking, thought Riera perhaps should have started with Babel coming on for him (Rafa special) or Torres. Gerrard was not great, the DMs and defence struggled early on to deal with Lille running at them so perhaps we should be thankful for it being only 0-1 which isn't actually the end of the world other than yet another defeat (15 defeats, only 19 wins this season) and it doesn't bode well for the rest of the season.

If we'd lost a European game away last season at the same time in the year it wouldn't be the end of the world, shows how much "progress" we're making and in which direction  I think most of us would settle for bailing out of this "competition", it's nothing more than emphasising our season's struggle and perhaps the sooner the season is over, the sooner the suffering will have ended and two or three issues will be sorted - where we finish, if the manager stays and who else stays.

I do also agree with whoever said the 4-5-1/4-3-3 isn't working anymore, but then did it really ever work with Lucas in it? He's not Alonso, supposedly Aquilani was going to play that kind of role, but that's not happening because Rafa is too stubborn or stupid. I am now more convinced than ever that Rafa cannot see past his own "tactical genius" and thinks that it isn't failing because it's square pegs in round holes, but because everything else is to blame - the players, refs etc. Why else would he continue with the same formation despite losing FIFTEEN games this season, and in only one of our cup games have we scored more than ONE goal which is pitiful.

We may end up consigned to Mondays one way or another, by virtue of more Euro Disney football next season, or if we aren't even in Europe then we may not be the team to watch as is becoming increasingly the case this season.

At the risk of repeating myself again and again and again....

Rafa, just go away. And don't even think about asking for a payoff. You are an embarrassment to this club. Stevie G, long defended my so many on this forum, is an embarrassment. Heart ? WHAT heart has he got ? Reminds me of the lion in the Wizard of Oz....

What a collective waste of space this bunch is, an insult to the badge and the fans....

Lille, Reading, Stoke, Wolves, Portsmouth.....it's repulsive, the only way to describe it.

Essentially I think Rafa's man management and continued bad coaching of the club has broken him.

I tend to agree with some statements made in the press about Rafa being a control freak. Instead of focussing on the squad and it's perfromance he weighs himself down with jobs that should be delegated.

It is also not hard to see our best football was when Paco Ayesteran had reigns of the squad and left Rafa to oversee.

Actually it is the police that enforce earlier kick off against Man Utd.

Last time we had an evening kick off against Man Utd there were a number of stabbings (2002 I think)

I preffer to be closer to the Liverpool style rather than the Madrid style of patience.

But it's true mate that the patience is being stretched too much.

Sunday is the traditional slot for us playing them, the thing is that was orchestrated so rio would be available - you will NEVER persuade me that being the first day he was available after his EIGHT MONTH suspension was a coincidence. 17/01/2004 vs Wolves then next game was 20/09/2004 vs Liverpool with him being unavailable on 19/09/2004

I think Gerrard is shattered mentally.

He has goven more than any other player in a Liverpool shirt and is forced tp play negative football by a manager who quite simply does not understand how to win the English Premiership.

And when he plays well he is probably not congratulated and hyped up like other manager would do to start building confidence but tod what he should have done to have an even better game.

How anyone can say that Rafa Benitez is a great manager is beyond me

If it hadnt of been for Steven Gerrard he would have been sacked years ago.. but now he isnt performing people are staring to turn on him.

We need to get rid of the cowboys, but we need to get rid of Rafa Benitez.  I really beleve most other managers could get more out of the current squad as they quite obviosly dont beleive in him or his ways now which is why there is absolutley no commitment from any of them..

Ola Mr Benitez... sorry. it should say Despedida Mr Benitez

:(
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Mmmm, sounds like your conspiracy theory.

Especially when you look at the dates for Liverpool v Man Utd games. Haven't got the stats to hand but I'm pretty sure over the last 10 years we have played as many lunchtime Saturday's as Sunday's.
