how do you know this to be true? i didnt hear either play speak for or against us in the summer. Sneijder and Van der vaart were available for peanuts in the summer and we didnt even try for them and got a broken Aquilani instead! what kind of decision making is that

Gem of a post amonst the usual hyperbolic w@nk that is par for the course for these threads now. Can't dispute that we're sh*te, but I'll leave it at that.

I agree. Gerrard needs to be benched and Aquilani needs to be given a go at it, but then again that's down to Rafa. You look at the bench tonight and it had options, but you can take a horse to water but can't make it drink, and he threw on Reira, who consequently turned out to be sh*te...just like the rest, then. No surprises there.

Rafa needs to drop some players here, and rejig that f*cking formation, because it's just flat. Go two up front, drop the two holding mids, and for f*ck sake play Aquilani with Benayoun with either Riera, Babel or even Johnson out on the flanks, because Kuyt just isn't doing f*ck all out there. The system needs a shake up badly.

BTW, some crying f*ckers in this thread. Losing 1-0 but it's not as if this tie is over. We'll see what kind of spine this team has left in a week.

I'm only in this forum to support Denmark from now on in and seeing that Daniel Agger plays for Liverpool I have to keep interest in this forum for my world cup hopes.I just hope he doesn't get injured playing for Liverpool.

Just to put things in context.... Look at man u's latest european exploits and look at ours.... :(
This season is so disappointing after the finish of last year! Can Alonso make such a difference?? I just can't figure it out. I know Raffa is a bigger con man than houllier, but jesus, what is wrong with Gerrard???

He set us up for a draw but we couldnt handle the bumpy pitch or even match Lille on a technical level. Lets face it the french side where ordinary and yet we played side and back then belted it up the field looking to help the ball on into dangerous areas, but it didnt trouble them at all. Same old, but no one is ever held responsible and we just sit back and keep looking at it, complain and going over the same ground next match and its tiresome.I just want something to happen, someone to break ranks, speak out or make a stance, hell just make the call! but its just an endless cycle of pain with no one within the club with the guts to put us all out of our misery. Its inhumane.

Why defend the indefensible emerald? when was the last time we went on a winning run? or kept some consistency? sure the tie is not over, but feck me 2 loss in a row and the players are not up to it, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get beaten by them at anfield. The WHOLE system need to be changed. Something must be done, because this isn't a blip we are in a brink of catastrophe.

The Manager needs to be replaced, we need new players, we need quality ones and we need a new formation that balances the team.

I agree about Gerrard, he's terrible and its high time he was replaced as captain. Lucas anyone?

My only surprise is that so many people realy but realy believed we are going to have a decent year.

From pre-season it was obvious that Rafa is detached from reality - he thought that last season performance could be replicated and with minor tweaks he could do better.

My claim was that last year was the extraction of more then 100% of players ability and team spirit ,once in a decade effort and no more ,the fact we went so far with only ONE striker and with so tight squad was amazing....However Mister Benitez thought it was his system that it was his tactics and he could build on it to carry on.

So not only was hedellusional ,he also weakend the team by releasing the only decent midfielder we had (Alonso) and not bringing a reasonable replacement ,his Major signing was an injured player ,his anchor is a none footballer (lucas) ,he still remained with one striker ,didn't take injuries into considration - pure madness ,which it's fruit we are reaping this days.

It must end sometime and we fans have short memory so patience we would see better times.

I agree that we need to change this current setup with Gerrard behind Torres and Masch and Lucas in the centre of a 4-5-1, Kuyt on the right, and someone else on the left.

It isn't working anymore.

It's actually remarkable how consistent we've been. Every single match is virtually the same. A lack of passion and belief (not effort IMO), poor linkup player, poor understanding, no off the ball running, poor supply from central midfield.

I think that Rafa said we can't afford to risk 2-3 matches playing Aquilani to get him fully match fit, but it's hard to see what we've got to loose. This team is grossly underperforming and a change is required.

I wouldn't drop Gerrard but I agree with txt-spk above. Play Aquilani behind Torres, drop Lucas and play Gerrard there. Do it for 3 games and see where we are then. There's simply nothing to be lost with a change.

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
