Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I would just like to say... Lucas is the worst central midfielder to wear the red shirt since Paul Stewart, hence our central midfield is at its worst in 20 years.

Lucas = Played 40, 1 assist, 0 goals, no passing range, hides (avoids receiving the pass from defenders hence they are now hoofing it)...and from controlling midfield with Alonso last season, we now have none with lucas. We create nothing because theres no platform to do so...and that platform is central midfield which is toothless with lucas.

I'm embarrased that lucas has worn the jersey. I'm actually getting close to hating him.

Hes returned to the Lucas of old
A liability who causes more problems than he solves. His play tonight was on par with his worst performances. He was one of our worst performers tonight (after Gerrard) and wouldnt have got in the Wigan side never mind ours

In conclusion I fully expect him to be one of the first on the team sheet for the next game

He wouldn't get in wigan side playing well. The lad is truly an awful footballer. I'm shocked at how so many see potential. I see it, potentially the worst player since jean michel ferri![B]

Lucas fits into this description

Does it matter?

Gerrard has done himself no favours all season but his poor performances are only briefly mentioned, this kid who has worked harder than Gerrard this season, and no one can argue this, is under constant scrutiny.

By all means, critisize the poor performances, but spread it around the entire team. Gerrard has been a poor excuse for a player this season.

Yes, he has dug us out of the mire in the past, which is why he is on £120,000 a week. On that wage, with his talent, I would expect it several times a season. Lucas' wages are probably pittance to that, but hey, lets pick on the scapegoat. Gerrard deserves a new contract, at half the wage based on his performances this season as, lets face it, as his performance and attitude has shown this season, he is clearly better than everyone else.

Danny Murphy, the three time winning goalscorer at Old Trafford, was deemed not good enough for us in 2004...

...yet in 2010 we have an infinitely inferior player to him in Lucas in the same position, the worst midfielder since the dark days of Souness as manager.

...our standards continue to fall.

Its beyond a joke how he continues to be picked, in what is the most crucial area of the field.

It was head tennis in midfield against Lille as the downgrade to lucas means we have no one who can control/dictate possession.

Watched the game on Five, while listening to five live where commentator continually savaged him (and kuyt) as not being good enough.

"Shocking" was the word used to describe lucas... hes a massive handicap and ultimately Rafa will go because of his ilk.

We should drop that sulking brat Gerrard and make a true hero like Lucas captain. He's really stepped it up this season, and you can see how much the players and fans respect him, i really he could be the inspiration this team nees to get us out of the doldrums

In the media lucas is the poster boy for our nosedive on the field. As Mark Lawrenson has stated on radio commentary... "what exactly does he do?"

Well, apart from his 1 assist (and an OG) in 41 games, and his 5 yards sideways nothing passes, and hiding by avoiding receiving the ball from defenders who now have to hoof it (Carra for the 1st time since pre Alonso), and getting over run, bullied on a weekly basis where we are dominated in midfield which is now toothless and no longer control games, awful in possession and offers zero creativity... apart from all that not alot Mark.

While off the field its a combination of Rafas "management", and the parasite owners saddling us with debt.

The worrying thing is thats alot of people to get rid off (pi'sspoor players, inept manager, and broke owners) to get back to the top.

Well, he made a nice incisive pass into the box for Gerrard which could have led to a goal. He also, got his left foot onto a ball in the box and missed by a couple of yards.

But.....nah......f'uck it, I agree, I think he's the weakest link in the team, the prime reason of many reasons we are horrible to watch this year. I slightly admire his cheery demeanor and his apparent effort but to be honest it annoys me that he accepts our current mediocrity.

Seems like a nice guy but bottom line - not good enough.

The midfield maestro is in our top two most ever present (other is kuyt) players this season... and been in the heart of central midfield for a whopping 15 losses.

We have a quality defensive midfield destroyer in Masch ala Hamann, but the comparison of how much we have fallen from a creative/talent standpoint in midfield can be shown simply as...

In 2001, Danny Murphy was our 4th choice central midfielder.. who scored 10 goals, 8 assists... and contributed hugely.

In 2010, lucas, a poor mans Murphy, incredibly, is our 1st choice central midfielder.. who has made 1 assist and scored an OG in 40 games.
