I have been one of his biggest critics but to be honest I thought he was excellant in the derby, gave 100% fought all day and made some crucial interceptions whilst keeping the play ticking over. He is not world class by any stretch and is not a patch on Alonso but he is young and improving and although I would not have him starting every game in my opinion merits his place in the squad. I would compare him in a way to Fletcher at United, all their supporters hated him calling him Fergies love child but he kcked on and is now a regular in a team that has won the title four the last two years and reached back to back European cup finals (Terrible facts when you type them but unfortunatly true)

An interesting insight into the way Lucas' game has evolved during even the course of the season comes by way of the Gaurdian chalkboards.
Early on in the season Lucas attemted some 35-45 short passes per game across a wide range of the pitch, this during home games we didnt actually go on to win. More recently and coinciding with a fruitful return in points his game involves 16-19 passes slighter longer, in a smaller area of the pitch. Your thoughts?

chalkboards

try arsenal & birmingham games at home then compare with say bolton and everton games at home.

completly average, and thats not gonna change. He works hard and gets stuck in a bit, but he just isnt good enough. He's not good enough defensively to be a holding player and not good enough going forward to be a box to box player.

Igor, where do we start, lack of control of the ball that lead to the fifty/fifty with Skiryacos and Fellaini (don't pick me up on the spelling of those two), constantly passing the ball to a man thats marked, he has no idea how to create his own space, his tackling is shocking and get's no better, every time we conceed in a dangerous area it's down to him, he offers nothing going forward, he doesn't look up for the forward pass if he ever gives one just sideway's and backwards.

All in all he's a foockin liability, if teams are attacking he's liable to give away a freekick in a dangerous area, create's nothing week in week out and would be better playing in the Kirkby league on a Sunday just for a team to brag they had a Brazilian, but be prepared for the referee to check his passport, in case like 45,000 other reds we either think he's bluffing or we got the worng Lucas!

Are you really serious that you're gonna put up with another six years of this "World Class Midfielder" costing us points and games before you realise he is not Good Enough?

Try the Sunday League Teams around Kirkby, the players there will give more to a team than Lucas on a weekly basis, pick one that really takes your fancy, and then ask is He Good Enough to play for Liverpool,

When your answer is no, ask me why, i think he's a liability.

There may very well be a Brazilian called Lucas who is sh1t hot playing football, unfortunatley the one we got ain't him!

Got a Yellow for saying what i felt, probably get another now for sarcasm.

only 3 back passes during everton game

click link above. whilst i agree lucas shouldbe a bench player to say say he only passes backwards is wrong and ignorant.

Calling Lucas a pr!ck is out of order.

He may not be that good and may cost us points sometimes but he has worked his @ss off every game this season.

Work's his @rse off to do what exactly....... tell me i'm obviously missing the point here, he would not get into a top 4 side apart from our's he wouldn't even be a regular in the Bitters Team we beat yesterday, tell me someone please what he brings to the Team, Outline the Kwality he brings to Liverpool? ????

Can you do it..... Hard work, when? where? stupid free kicks given away ? Yes tick in the box, Posession given away Yes tick in the box, Put's his Teamates under pressure, Yes tick in the box every time he passes the ball, if not it's an aimless ball to nobody, no control, no giulle, no finess, no nothing

Please tell me something he does right, he excells at, please tell me why he should be in the first team and why he is the second name on the teamsheet ahead of Mascherano? ??????

Tell me why you think he's great instead of he ran round the field yesterday? give me your reasons why he deserves a RED shirt?

Are you kidding me mate??

I never once said that this lad was a great player or even a good player.

All i said is that he has great work rate. Doesnt matter if he is a liability or if he gives possesion away. He still doesnt deserve to be called a pr!ck.

I dont care if you call him a poor player or a liabilty because he can be sometimes.

But dont call him a pr!ck. He dont deserve that.

Its a sign of the times that "knowledgable" fans are over the moon with mediocre players.

Its not hard to win the hearts of some, run around alot, play with fire in your belly and you have the makings of cult hero status. Feck in ell, I wouldn't dissapoint half the fans if I put on a Red shirt either.

Bunch o' feckin' whiners and whingers on here. Take the game for what it is worth - it's a derby. A passionate full-blooded affair. And Lucas had a bloody good game. So kudos to him. He did well, he stood up, he was committed and I say "more of the same, lad"...
