SOTIRIOS KYRGIAKOS - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Redman in wales » Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:03 pm

From the offal:

Rafa Benitez claims the positive attitude of bargain buy Sotirios Kyrgiakos is proving 'contagious' around Melwood.

The Greek international has been one of our star performers since Christmas as the Reds have gone six Premier League games unbeaten.

And Kyrgiakos had Kevin Davies in his pocket during Saturday's 2-0 victory over Bolton - prompting praise from the gaffer.

"What has Sotirios brought? Headers," said Benitez, whose side have now kept five clean sheets in their last six league games.

"He is strong and he likes the challenge. It is something that we needed and right now he is doing well. His attitude has been contagious.

"Kevin Davies is very strong and it is not easy to stop him in the air, so Sotirios did really well.
He lost one tooth in the game and that shows how hard it can be."

Damn - He lost a tooth! haha. that's gotta smart a bit on the field

After the Lyon game he was absolutely slaughtered on here, now he's a hero.

The sad fact is that our centre backs have played so poorly over the last 12 months or so, that a half decent journeyman with a bit of experience has come in and looked better than any of them.  Fair play to Kyrgiakos.  He's not fit to lace Sami's boots as a player, but at least he brings a bit of aggression and determination to the side.  He deserves to keep his place.  He's better than Skrtel and unlike Agger seems capable of staying fit.

And for the record, Carra is playing better as a fullback than he has been as a centre half for the past two seasons or so.

A half decent journeyman who's been dominating on domestic and national level for many years, and who if he wasn't Greek would have been playing for a powerhouse wayyy before his 30th bday. People who have seen him since rangers were calling for this kind of move for long time. Those of you who are asking yourselves how this "journeyman" is your beck CB should get out of your EPL bubble.

Pray that they appeal and he gets a lesser suspension. Is he even suspended for Europa league or does the red only apply in EPL?

Appeal won't do any good.  The ref on the pitch made the call and they won't overturn it.  Besides, he did go in 2 footed.  The real travesty was that Felaini wasn't shown red as well for his challenge.  Add that to his little afters on Kuyt a few minutes before and he should have been carried on stretcher straight to showers.  Appalling officiating.

Kinda made like Pineear's second yellow looks like the ref was making up for his earlier loose officiating.

With a 3 match ban does it include the Europa league clashes with Unirea or only EPL matches?

If you don’t know the answer to that you don’t know much about football.

:D

dont be so stupid.

I actually dont think it deserved a red considering pienaars yellow just before but you could see it is one that players do go for.
I think it should have been a yellow personally but dont call someone a turk cos they thought the challenge was a red, because there will be loads that thought it was.

If he misses the Arsenal and City games thats possibly not bad games to mis with the way they pass and move, neither are overly physical or reliant on balls into the box so might not be the worst time to have him suspended.
