Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Aquaman was horrible tonight. Hope it is just one game but he can't simply make a pass and get knock off the ball easily. He is even slower than Alonso...The sad truth is that Lucas seems a better player than him....To me, Aquaman just doesn't have it. If you have class, you can see it right away. Anyway, i tried to be as positive as possible as we won tonight but Aquaman's performance is worrying.

Lets put it into perspective, the balance of the midfield looks far better with Aquaman in it as it does with Lucas and Masc in the same team.

Rather than trying to play himself into the game he seemed to be overambitious in his passing. Nothing that a bit of confidence would not fix. I agree he is more a Gerrard type rather than Alonso and he did play better as an attacking midfielder (seemed quicker as well).

Thought he was poor.  I know he needs time but he doesnt look like a £20 mil player.

In a nutshell. Said previously that Rafa has made a mammoth blunder because Aquilani was bought to replace Alonso, but he plays in Gerrard's position...advanced midfield. Thats where you attempt the killer ball..and look for constant openings. Not central midfield.

The scary thing is we only have 2 bonifide central midfielders in the squad...Lucas and Mascherano.. and the really shocking thing is Lucas is the best we have to play the passing role at the club. He is all we have. Cannot state enough how massive Alonso's loss has been. We havent replaced him...and that void is huge. We completely lack control in midfield... a metronomic passer who dictates the tempo of the game, providing the link between the defence and attack... and gives us composure. Right now its a bag of nerves in the center of the field..theres no one to demand the ball off the defence hence the huge increase in hoofball this season.

We dont have the same control we had post Alonso... top priority remains trying to replace him.

Is it true that Aquaman is the player Carra was suggesting is not good enough for the club, in a recent interview ?

thought he had a mixed bag there today in terms of passing and tackling, looks like he's trying to overimpress sometimes.
in saying that he worked hard and never looked to give up.
in a game that we controlled for long periods we still looked flat with the decisive pass in front of goal and if it wasnt for imo aquas clinical touch to square that pass for kuyt to bundle the ball over the line was the difference. excellent technique and vision.
a lot of unfair comments have already been posted about him.he's no xavi,so what, get over it and let him walk in his own shoes!!
the bpl is the toughest league out there and totally different to what he's used and next season is when he should really be judged!!!.

There's no excuse for cr@p first touches, putting the ball straight out into touch when trying to pass back to the guy who threw it to you; or 40 yard passes into nowhere, to no-one...

Yes he gave a few balls away, but we look like a unit with him in the team. It is so refreshing having a player in midfield who is moving forward always! He was more advanced than Ngog a lot of the time, and every time a cross was put into the box, he was there. I spent the whole game watching him move off the ball, and if you watch closely you can see the space that he is creating.

Really clever runs

Every game that Aqui has started, we have won.

I agree somewhat with what you are saying but hope he will make the necessary adjustments to help make the position his own. Any Italian I speak to really rates him as they have seen more of him so I live in hope he just needs time to adjust.

I think there are a few players that fall into that category
