Before the game vs stoke, Soto wasnt taken seriously and everyone assumed that he was bad. He had 3 sporadic appearances all season and was decent but no one believed in him. Like any player he needs confidence and needs to settle into a team. As far as I'm concerned this was his first opportunity at Liverpool and he is taken FULL advantage.

In the beginning of the season, I boldly stated that Soto would challenge for top pairing, when everyone pushed him aside saying that he is 4th choice at best. I followed him throughout his career and i knew what he was bringing to the table.

In Goal.com he was Liverpools highest rated player for 3 straight games. Today, he was rated 7 while the 3 otvher backs were at 5.

If Agger is not fit then i agree play him.
He is definately a better bet than skyrtl.

He has been steady the last few games and does win most headers.
To me though he does appear likely to make a mistake with the ball at his feet.
But fair play, he has come in and done well.
Certainly enough to warrant his place in the side.

he is the best performing centreback at the moment, and is our most commanding header-er of the ball.

I agree that he's not great with the ball at his feet, but he's still better than skrtel, who nearly got caught dallying on the ball last night against wolves, had doyle not fouled him.

I doubt whether Kyrgiakos deserves a first team position on a consistent basis, but he looking reliable back-up and at a relatively cheap price.

For the money we paid he has been a bargain, no nonsense defender and the best we have in the air.

To be honest I think he is in the team on merit at the moment, irrespective of whether Carra is right back or not.

I would definitely have him in the team against Bolton, a very physical side.

F*ckin sad state of affairs when Sotirios Kyrgiakos is LFC's best player for 3 matches running.

I agree with those that are saying he's a bargain at £2m and he is undoubtedly doing a job but deary, deary me...if he is our best player and most consistent player over the past 3 games then we are truly struggling lads and ladies!!!

He's single handedly corrected our inability to defend corners/crosses.  Unfortunately I'm scared to see what would've happen to us if he didn't play against Stoke and Wolves, we just may have lost both games.  And what will happen to us when he is eventually dropped, I believe he will be when Johnson is fit.

Why would he get dropped if he's playing like this regardless if agger or Johnson return. If he had an EPL reputation he would be a lock, but since he's Greek, he's just a plugin until your big leaguers come back. Ridiculous mentality. This guy is your defensive MVP in his first opportunity with the team and he's gonna yet dropped when Daniel Agger returns? Who the hell is Daniel Agger? Kyrgiakos with carra/Agger unless he bombs out, and I'm not talking about 1 bad half.

couldn't agree more.

by the way it is not really Kyrgiakos he was killed off earlier in the season when we kidnapped some Finish Defender from Germny and put a wig on him with a fake muzzy and beard.

We needed a presence at the back and he's come in and done a good job in that respect. No doubt he'll come in handy again this season but looking to the future I can't see him being the stalwart of our defence if we want to challenge for the top honours.

In the last three games we've essentially played very little football and slugged it out for the points, typically defending deep and soaking up pressure (Stoke/Spurs esp) and that has suited the Greek. (That's why I think he'd slot right into a Stoke, Blackburn or Bolton.)

When it comes to next season, or even this season, and we start playing decent football again, the defence will have to play higher up the pitch and isn't likely to have as much protection as it has needed recently. Not being the quickest or most agile defender and possessing little on-the-ball ability, I could then see him getting exposed.

I think he's a little unfortunate too in that he is only likely to start alongide Skrtel because he has a bit of pace whereas Carra and to a lesser extent Agger, don't. When Johnson returns, Carra will move to CB - one presumes alongside Agger. I don't think you could have a CB pairing as one-dimensional as Carra and Kyrgiakos if we're to challenge for the top honours.

You get what you pay for. He is trying, leave him alone. It's not his fault he isn't a better player naturally.

All you've guys have seen of him are his last 3 performances and hes been brilliant. He's good at what he does. Just because hes not the best with the ball (he sint bad for a big guy mind you) doesnt man he cant be starting center back. He can play against any team. Look vs Tottenham, who arennt stoke bolton, etc. Bring in someone with pace and good with the ball and you'll lack strength, aerial dominance and leadership. Every player has his strengths and weaknesses. The coachs job is to lay out a formation that suits his players attributes.

If he was a striker, Soto's defensive performances could be depicted as him scoring 4 goals in 3 games (since he scored one as a CB). If that was the case, would every agree to bench him once a Kuyt type player wouldbe back from injury? (because we dont have a Torres at the back) The answer is NO. So why replace him with Agger or Carragher now? Once again, who the hell is Daniel Agger? and Carra isnt what he used to be. If Kyrgiakos' name was Kyrgiakez or Kyrgiakson, he would be a godsend, right?
