It really comes down to how much of the potential sale money Rafa would get to invest back into new players. If it's anything like what happened with Alonso then id say try for a play swap deal + cash.

Like Toure and 10 m to get some attacking option?

Under no circumstances should we, or can we afford to sell Mascherano. Unless of course a huge fee would be available (and I mean all of it) to be used for quality buys for a forward (to put Gerrard into mid to replace Masch's gap left behind) and in wide areas, noteably the right side. So long as it would improve the squad as a whole then it would be acceptable, especially as Lucas seems to be doing an admirable holding role no matter what game he plays in these days. Can't see this happening, though. The Yanks would take a large chunk of the change, and leave the manager with buttons.

Keep, first priority.

Sell if the price is too tempting and if the funds are used to buy better quality in positions needed.

Agree that Lucas has looked better on his own, but Masch is a far better option, even if he wants away I don't think Lucas is good enough to fill the void, so we would only weaken ourselves further if we did try to cash in now.
I go along with getting rid of the dross and buy the best possible striker we can in Jan.
Ive got a sneaky feeling them pair of scumbags might just release some funds to buy a bit of quality if available
(only to protect their investment mind)

Heres hoping!

might as well give up if we sell Mascherano. He is the engine room, the heart. Everything that we do one the pitch which is good comes through him.

Decent players. Whether we can fashion a move for either of them is another thing. Also have to factor in will Rafa even be here come the summer and how could that change things.

Masch is a good player but I think his mind has been at times elsewhere this season. He still bosses some games but he is a quality player so that will happen. Alonso was probably made up on going all of last season but he was still ace for us last season.

I fully expect Masch to leave in the summer barring a freak turn of events.

I would say keep him, maybe not if I believed cirsumstances to be different.

But

1) Like all the money will be available to spend....

2) Like Rafa would even consider dropping Kuyt for a real rw or consider to play 4-4-2 to keep 2 strikers happy.

Keep him. In the summer, the manager (whoever it is) may need to generate some funds in order to buy. There seems little point to me in selling Masherano and giving Rafa the funds to "invest" when we are a couple of results away from mid table in year 6 of the 5 year plan. This is his team, which he has built having spent in excess of 200 million quid or whatever the feck it is. Lets see how he goes with it, if he can get us into the top four and maybe even win a trophy then we should start talking about next season. If he can't, lets reconsider then but now isn't the time to be cashing in on the family silver.

I'm a big Mascherano fan I rate him on his day as one of the best defensive midfielders in the game. If I knew for certain he wanted to stay at Liverpool and his heart was truley in it. I'd never sell the bloke. One decent game from Lucas and we can now afford to sell Mascherano? No way, if half of the Newkit faithful could convince every other manager in league that Lucas is as good as they think he his maybe we could sell him and make a million profit on the lad.

I'm not sure Mascherano does want to stay and thats the sticking point, if he wants to leave well then yes make some money obviously but if not, the old cliche of 'you don't sell your best players' surfaces.

Until Aquilani is fit and gets up to speed (if he ever does) I'd personally like to see Gerrard and Mascherano in the center, there is no doubt that this is our strongest pairing. Maybe play Yossi or Aquilani behind Torres, with Gerrard pulling strings from deeper and making those crunching tackles we'd have a lot more steel and guile back in midfield.

you forget that he wants to leave and anyone that doesn't want to be here should be shown the door, regardless who they are.

it is an honor to play for 'pool and only those who are willing to bleed for the team should be given the honor. no player no matter who he is, is not irreplaceable  ynwa :buttrock

sells if he wants to go.
since he is ungrateful to the fans and manager, we shouldnt keep him.

Essien is a better player, Makalele used to be a better player too. I like Scott Parker, if we can get him for cheap, it will be great.

If he wants to leave then do sell him but I'm pretty sure some players thought of that at our current form/position (even Gerrard on Chelsea), who can blame Masch if he thought of that. If the fans are not showing appreciation of him then expect it to come both ways too and that's what a world class player can cling on to like Torres liking the life in Liverpool.

Back to topic, I dont agree selling him as I think he's a better option than Lucas. We did won the last two games yes. Convincingly? No. I would love to see the combination of Masch & Aquaman as I think it would be a better balance to the team. Beside, I already missing his sliding tackle on the ball and the opponent.
