circa £150/£200m ground naming and additional gate receipts of between £12m and £15m would easily pay the interest on a £200m loan and leave plenty over to cover additional costs etc.

It isn't rocket science and it doesn't need a ground share. What it does need is a brilliant manager and a team that can constantly challenge for the title and never be out of the top four as CL income will become even more important. Not sure that we are quite there at the moment!

Agreed on most ponts there mate .But we have constantly been in the top four. What is also needed is investement in players for said brlliant manager to compete. We'll see.

good news if its true but we`ve had so many false dawns down the years you take these stories with a pinch of salt, one things for sure Chris Purslow up to now anyway seems a vast improvment on Rick Parry and things look like they might be going in the right direction in that we finally have someone who will make the most out of the brand and not sit on there :censored:

waiting for it to come to us.

one things for sure we need the stadium because there is only so much investment/sponsorship you can bring in.

I think this summer we will see more investment in quality players. The owners will have taken note this summer, if they don't spend and keep up then we will fall behind.

Can't believe it, but lakes i think is right on one of his posts. we are going to see investment early in the new year from a third party. I dont know who yet, but he's definately middle east/india. I posted a month or so ago about mukesh ambani, who owns reliance industries. I'm contracted to them and a hihg level gadgie was saying that he was interested in buying a stake.

But, i aint sure on that. Purslow mentioned a few months back that investment was coming. Naming rights and another investor are on their way. I'll be able to get my boy a season ticket too for the new stadium. Brilliant

I don't really know enough about Purslow to make any judgments ie is he just a yes man for the yanks or not. But he seemed qualified enough when coming into the job. In terms of taking the club forward he has done well in helping us get that new shirt deal and he did say a few months ago that "significant investment" was coming in "the next 3 months".

Now I know I lap up any investment/takeover news like a dog on heat but I think this stadium is going to happen. I think this money has come from a combination of the yanks putting money in from their recently sold US franchises as well as potential sale of the naming rights. Id like to think there has been some outside money pumped in from a 3rd investor but now im just getting carried away.

Even if Rafa got jack all this January and next summer without selling players some would still go on about how much money the manager has been given and should challenge anyway :no

When you think about it, it really is Rafa fault we have no stadium. If he had won the league, the Cl and the FA cup each season the would had been money for a new stadium :no

'April start' for new Liverpool stadium, says council

Work on the new stadium could start in April 2010
Work on Liverpool's new stadium in Stanley Park could begin as early as April 2010, the leader of Liverpool City Council has told the BBC.

Warren Bradley said Liverpool have told the council that they are "very close now to securing the finances".

He added it would be "in April that hopefully, fingers crossed, we'll see some activity on Stanley Park".

Bradley also revealed the council would hold talks with Everton about their plans for a new stadium on 11 January.

The government rejected Everton's plans for a 50,000-seater stadium in Kirkby, with Liverpool City Council one of the opponents of the plan.

Development of Liverpool's proposed new ground has been a casualty of the unstable global financial situation.

What they've said is they'll secure the finances in the first quarter, so that's between January and March

Construction on the new site in Stanley Park, which is next to Anfield and has a planned 60,000 capacity, was frozen in August 2008 after preliminary work because of the financial conditions.

But, in September, Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks insisted that it would go ahead once the financial situation improved. And Liverpool City Council leader Bradley says that the club is now confident of securing the required cash in the first three months of 2010.

"What they've said is they'll secure the finances in the first quarter, so that's between January and March," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

He added that work on Liverpool's new stadium, which is part of England's proposed 2018 World Cup bid, could then begin in April.

"We've been pressing Liverpool Football Club to ensure that they deliver the stadium and if they're not going to deliver it, to come clean with the council so we can look at other options," said Bradley.

"Liverpool Football Club have come back to us and said they're very close now to securing the finances and they want to move on as quickly as possible, not only for the World Cup bid but also for Liverpool Football Club, who see a new stadium as being the heart of the business plan."

Bradley added that talks with Liverpool's city rivals Everton to help them secure a new ground would take place early in 2010.

"We have got a meeting with Everton where we will put all our cards on the table," he said.

"I will be there as will be council chief executive Colin Hilton and executive director of regeneration John Kelly. We want to make sure that we can facilitate things for Everton."

Doubt that, their board is not known for throwing money around and they'll struggle to get funding without having a considerable financial input from somewhere. I heard talk they were going to downscale the non-footballing parts of their Kirkby proposal and resubmit, although I suspect it was rejected as much because they wanted to move there as for the plans themselves.

They haven't been constantly rumoured to want to groundshare with us for no reason whatsoever, nothing to do with financial sense for both clubs, but because they know they'll struggle to raise funds without us.
