The Premiership - General Discussion

They were fairly decent all round, but for a side with so much attacking talent I was expecting them to kick on and put it firmly to bed. They didn't, they were slack for about 20min's near the end and almost paid for it as Pompey had two or three very close opportunities, the Nugent one in particular was absolutely glaring. I didn't think City shone, it was just a decent performance - fairly assured in possession, OK in attack and defence throughout, but I wouldn't cite it as a good example of their 'top four potential'. Besides, it's obvious with the players they have that securing a top four spot is a real possibility, but to have a really good idea of where they stand against the usual top four you'd need to see them play similar level opposition, and in action over a sustained spell of say ten games (in the same way you typically need to see a player for a sustained spell to assess their level of ability). Today they were up against the worst side in the league, the stadium wasn't even full, nor was the home crowd at all boisterous which is strange for game at Fratton. Their next two games in particular could be a good indicator of how things will shake up.

Was no plain sailing for City, ball possession was poor and they were a bit suspect at the back at times.  Portsmouth should have equalised in the last few mins.

Nugent missed a sitter in the 88th minute, hit the ball into the ground   He makes Voronin look world class!

Fair enough, mate.  I only saw the first half where they looked well in control and a quality side.  As you say, we'll see how they go in their next couple matches but I'm certainly not writing them off.

They are using the Bitters as an experiment to see if having 5 officials works better!

Sir Alex Ferguson's helicopter spotted circling over Manchester City's training ground

Sir Alex Ferguson’s helicopter was spotted flying over Manchester City’s training ground yesterday.

After circling twice over the City players as they made their final preparations for today’s Old Trafford derby, it landed at United’s training centre to pick up manager Ferguson and take him to Newbury races.

City officials wondered if they were the victims of a spying mission, with their arch-rivals wanting to know any last-minute secrets.

The training grounds are a mile apart.

So...how many of City's players are 'missing' for the game today exactly?  :glare:
