I know it's all opinions and all that, and each person is entitled to theirs, but do you really think this mate? Honestly?
Listen I'm one of the people who bangs on all the time about getting local talent, at least English or British talent and giving them a shot, but do you honestly think Spearing would have got a game for Brazil or been crowned the player of the year in the Brazillian league?
akumaface wrote:TheLad wrote:akumaface wrote:If given the choice, would you play Lucas ahead of Aquilani or Alonso...The answer is a big NO. Lucas plays there simply because we don't have anybody else and doesn't mean he is good enough. When we play better opponents, he is being exposed at his position as he just couldn't hold on to the ball like Alonso or Hamann can (just to show what we need for that position and you may argue Rafa had put him there and is not Lucas fault). Also, he doesn't have the vision to make any creative pass. All he does is making 10 yards pass backwards and to his closest man left or right. I think he might play better at cover for right back since he doesn't need to be as creative.
You are comparing Lucas to Alonso ffs, they have an age difference of 5 years, Alonso playing for LFC many years. What is more absurd, that Aquilani hasn't put on the red shirt yet, you probably didn't see him much playing, and even if he was good at Roma it doesn't mean that he will be that good in the PL (hopefully he will be), but you already decided that he fits better in our squad and should be put ahead of Lucas.
I'm comparing to what kind of player we used to have. I don't really care about the age differences. IF you really like to compare ages, then compare to the Alonso when he was the same age as Lucas. My point being that we need better player than Lucas to be successful. I don't think compare to Alonso and Aquilani is absurd since Lucas in fact is playing the same position. I don't have an objection if Lucas play somewhere else like RB but the position that he is occupying right now is exactly what Alonso played or Aquilani will play.
Of course I wanted to play Aquilani ahead of Lucas and that's why Rafa bought him in the first place. If Lucas is good enough, then Rafa wouldn't have bought Aquilani. Lucas only perform one good game in a dozen and you think he is the solution already. That's absurd and that is ignoring the truth. Being a Liverpool Fan, our standard should be higher. Tell me one good contribute Lucas has....I can't think of any good ones but can tell you many bad ones like, he can't dribble, can't pass, can't tackle, can't shoot, not good at protecting the ball, physically small to play in CM, not strong enough. Lucas is really that bad and that's why most people are worried that we might be out of the league by the time Aquilani returns. Don't tell me you are completely comfortable having Lucas there. Just check out the thread as to why so many thinks we should pull Gerrard back to CM role.
I didn't watch the stoke game but read the game thread. I'm happy he played well but we were playing stoke for Chris sake... Not that all the bandwagon fans came out to defend him like he is the savior. Read my original post again "If given the choice...." If given the choice, i would only have Lucas as the 5th choice in CM. Just look at the CM in Man U and Chelsea and you will know what i mean. Where will Lucas be if in Man U or Chelsea..

Soooo what? he is in the youth squad which is not that dominent in the youth level and even this "significant" fact doesn't tell us anything we watch the guy play day in day out and he is just not good enough.

To be honest BigM ,Yes i do.
Let's leave the whole brazilian connection aside, and i'm a big fan of Brazil ,Lucas is just not that good for us at least ,there are a lot of examples of young players playing in there youth national squad to just vanish later on.
I admit i saw spearing play only for a few games and minutes ,but he caught my eye with his confidence his agressive play and focus ,so Yes i would at least let him play BEFORE lucas for a few games - we all know Lucas and Spearing are subs till we lock in a big name or till aquillany returns so why not?

I am not saying that Lucas is the long term solution now, no one argues that he is way off being the new Alonso, I didn't say that I am completely comfortable with the way he plays. ALL I say, that the guy HAS BEEN IMPROVING constantly during the last games, we have to rely on him because the injuries we have, so if WE the supporters don't back him during the games when he PERFORMS WELL, and he doesn't feel some feedback than it's a shame, and don't be suprised that his confidence is ****. And as you know, no player can perform well without self confidence. Especially when you are 22 years old, playing in front of he Kop, and you know that a vast majority of the fans are ready to boo you any minute if you make a mistake. So all I say is that give the lad a break, and let him improve his game, we can only benefit from that.

Not any more, he has been selected for the WC qualifiers and I'm sure he will be on the bench. Ace said he would not make the bench at any top club, even though he now plays for his country (Brazil, remember them?). That is so what!

Lucas showed promising form amid the Reds' poor pre-season campaign and continued his form into Liverpool's 4-0 drubbing of Stoke City in midweek.
Brazil manager Dunga has now called up the midfielder for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Chile in a clear sign of Lucas' progress under Benitez.

Its a forum... were not sitting at the kop and we're not booing him and whatever we say has no effect on him... so cut the BS...
Hes improved from utter sht to slightly terrible... hes simply not good enough and im sure there'll be more games similar to the tottenham game where our midfielders get run ragged by half decent midfielders who can actually pass the ball rather than hoof it.. We do have other options with regards to the issue... we can always play Gerrard down the middle, or allow Lucas more space to work with... personally i dont think hes playing his natural position or role... he seems more a box to box midfielder whos just good at popping up at the right time in the right place...
Anyways... while i do think hes improved a little, i still think hes some way short of being good enough to play for us... The whole he plays for Brazil thing is nonsense... only reason hes playing for brazil is because they dont have many highprofilke players who play the holding CM role Lucas does... He plays for Liverpool, so he gets a callup... anyone who thinks his performances have merited a callup to the national side IS indeed deluded....
Ill leave this whole thing for now... we'll see how he performs until aquilani is back if Rafa sticks to the setup... hope he proves me wrong but i just cant see it happening
