So would I Woof, but in fairness we paid 8 million quid two years ago for Lucas as well. I'm not saying he's better than Aquilani far from it (and indeed like you I hope not) but he's obviously a better player now that when we first bought him (Lucas that is) so we either got severely ripped off when we first bought him, or his value has gone up from 8 million quid to a new value which could be anything.

He's got a huge advantage over Aquilani in that he's been here two years, and also if he plays in the first few matches he will be able to find his feet from a fitness point of view because the opposition will be finding theirs as well. Aquilani on the other hand when he comes back will be trying to almiatise, find his feet and get used to whole thing while playing against fully fit and wound up opponents.

If Lucas can't at the very least give the Italian a good run for his money given the advantages he's got, either Aquilani is a Worldbeater or Lucas is not very good. Or both is a possibility too I suppose :D

what? we spend 20mil on a player thats not going to be in the first team, look i know Rafa ois mad but he is not that mad.

So if we had signed fit player X today, you would have started him at SPurs despite having practically zero time with the team?  We don't even have a full week of practice FFS because of the internationals in midweek.

We usually do Joe, especially with big money signings. Kuyt for example.....

sign Kuyt on August 18 and he didn't start until we played PSV on September 12

But he made his debut against West Ham on the 26th of august Joe  :D

as a sub.

his first game for us was the Charity Shield a few days after he come here, run his legs off for us.

No idea mate, I remember at the time there was mention of £3million add ons, but not what they were for. I presume some will be for appearances and some for qualifing for CL etc.

Mick, the kindest thing I can say about Lucas is that sometimes it just doesn't "happen" for a player. Despite the accolades and reputation he earnt in Brasil , in his time at LFC he's never shown anything that lifts him at best above "average"

In simple terms, he's just not f'ucking good enough for us.

No mate. He didn't appear in the Charity shield.

25  Jose Reina
23  Jamie Carragher
5  Daniel Agger
3  Steve Finnan
6  John Arne Riise
10  Luis Garcia
11  Mark Gonzalez
22  Mohamed Sissoko
32  Boudewijn Zenden
16  Jermaine Pennant
15  Peter Crouch

Subs
1  Jerzy Dudek

4  Sami Hyypia

12  Fábio Aurélio

14  Xabi Alonso

8  Steven Gerrard

17  Craig Bellamy

24  Florent S.-Pongolle

Mainly because we didn't sign him till the following week!

I remember his debut against West Ham, he was outstanding, gave us a little bit of everything and really looked top class. Sadly things didn't go quite as well as I hoped after that.

Some of his performances towards the end of last year were worth more than 3 million though so I'm not worried about the add ons. Although when it comes to a transfer fee I always take the stance on what's paid up front.

The one at Old Trafford, Newcastle home and away are the exceptional stand outs.

Kuyt's debut was at Anfield against West Ham.

Was fantastic as well, if I remember rightly he set Crouch up for a goal but the big fella was offside.

wow really mick? I haven't seen any significant improvement myself... Lucas remains one of our weakest players for me, together with dossenna, Babel, Ngog, Degen. Babel, Lucas and Ngog couldn't even break down Singapore's defence FFS...

Thats a bit harsh. In fairness to the players mentioned, they have not played together as a team or indeed in the first team a lot of the time, and when they have, its usually as a sub. I havent seen improvement either, but in fairness to the players, its hard to when you dont see a lot of them.

Wow, who is the other Babel?  :p  I didn't know we have two as I think one is enough....

As for Lucas, he is simply not good enough. All these potential theory is really bull. He can't tackle, he commit foul after foul, he can't shoot, can't pass, can't dribble and slow. His skill is really limited and we just can't wait for him to improve wasting playing time and valuable points for him to grow. Carra and Gerrard is not getting younger. We must play our best team rather than playing the so called potentially good team. The best scenerio is to send him on loan to other EPL team (probably no takers...) to move away from the pressure but I read somewhere that he said he will go back to Brazil if his future is not clarified.

Two Babels might equal one half decent player :D He and Lucas may not be as bad as (some) people makie out, but they do need to improve which, in fairness to Lucas, he has done but Babel seems to have gone slightly backwards
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer
