Not lets get the man fit, give him a chance and see what he can do before we say he is useless

i dont think he is going to be useless .....just think with a name like Liverpool we could have got better.

Lakes, instead of Alberto Aquilani from Rome, just pretend his name is Albert Waterman from Reading and you'll have no trouble warming to him.  :D

:D

pmsl, i will give it a go.

personally im excited by it, mainly because i dont no all that much about him but he seems to be rated quite highly or at least attributed with alot of potential but yet to step up his game to the next level. if its the latter then hopefully rafa will bring the best out of him, and we get ourselves a world class player. either way best of luck to him

Made up he has signed but bloody worried about this 4-8 weeks lark, Xabi has left a massive hole and we needed someone to fill that roll asap not in 4 to 8 weeks time.
It is a worry hope we buy a winger, striker or another midfielder.

he wasn't likely to jump right into the first XI anyway, as soon as we sold Xabi, Lucas's name was written into the team that will face Spurs.  It doesn't make sense to worry too much about the first month or so, when he has signed a 5 year deal.  Its all about trying to stay injury free for the rest of his contract. No need to rush him back, thats could have been how he got hurt again in the first place.

Im more worried about us winning games than Alberto being fit Joe. Lucas and masch for the next 3 months in midfield doesnt fill me with a huge amount of confidence we have to come out the blocks from day one. Otherwise we will be playing catch up again and out the title race by October November again.

Our best player from last season has left and the player brought in to replace him will be out for another 2-3 months plus he's never played in the prem.

Dont get me wrong he looks boss when fit just wish he was ready to play for us now.

Hope Rafa has something else up his sleeve.

I have seen this guy play a couple of times. When he is fit he is great. I use the word when.
£20million though, seems a bit steep
hey what do i know anyway i work for hbos, and spent £1million of all your money on a duck pond.
Welcome stay fit and you will get your winners medal next May.

Well like many others I've got severe reservations, but this lad deserves a fair go before everyone makes their minds up about him. I'm really looking forward to seeing him play I know that much, and I definately think he's exactly the right type of player we need. The two main concerns are fairly obviously the injuries and the obvious difference both in terms of quality and physicality between Serie A and the Premiership.

The injuries you just have to cross your fingers about I suppose. I don't buy all this nonsense about our medical team being better than Roma's, nor the notion that their training is at fault and is the reason so many of their players get injured. We've just got to hope that he's been unlucky in his career so far, and it does happen sometimes that perenial sicknotes have periods of multiple consecutive appearances.

On the question of him "settling in", I guess that the manager and his staff have researched his character and are of the opinion he'll get it. As he plays for Italy, I think we can take the idea that he is actually a good player as read (and I know someone will mention Dossena, but for now I'm going to conveniently disregard him :D).

We could do with Aquilani's signing being a rip roaring success. It's quite a long time since we had one of those.

Whatever happens I hope he doesn't listen to any tips on settling in from Dossena. :D Who knows maybe if he figures it out quick enough he can give Doss tips.

Good post Mick, I agree totally, give him a chance- he may even be helpful to Dossena

Feck we going to do for about 6/7 games??!  Have to sign another player now, can't see lucas coping well with macha in the middle... Problem is after those matches then we still have to wait for him to fully recover and slowly start training with the team and finally adjusting. Could take atleast 3 months. We must grab another player like silva or something otherwise i think will be playing catch up and could ruin our chances yet again.

Can anyone think of any other players that have been signed that were going to be out for such a long time ? I remember Nunez got injured in his first training session and was out for a while. I can't think of any that have been signed with such a long period of recuperation still to go.

I think he will turn out to be a cracking player, if for no other reason than we have paid big money for a player who is injured and will miss the start of the season. So Rafa must have been really keen.

One thing that did worry me was reading on another site that Aquilani didn't play in the game at a Wembley against England that Rafa quoted.......... I hope to fk we havent signed the wrong player again   :D
