Difficulty in obtaining a work permit means Liverpool winger Sebastian Leto will almost certainly move to Panathinaikos in the near future.

The 22-year-old Argentine only joined the club in the summer of 2007 and spent the entire of last season on loan at Greek side Olympiakos.

"I am very close to Panathinaikos," he said. "There are negotiations between Panathinaikos and Liverpool and as far as I know the two sides are very close to a deal.

"I think that the possibilities to play at Panathinaikos next season right now are more than 90 per cent.

"I have been waiting for something from Olympiakos all these weeks but they didn't make a move to buy me so far.

"It's not a matter of money. I wanted to stay at Olympiakos but since they don't want to sign me I have to think about my future."

Any mention of a fee ?
Jaysus, we'll be going around with moneyboxes, singin' on the bridge to raise transfer funds....

Gudjohnson on the cheap anyone???

Eidur Gudjohnson available for 5m euros!! OK, he's 30 now but he would still offer us something. He has the guile and inventiveness to either play up top with Torres or play in the Gerrard role as well. At that price he would be well worth the gamble. Proven EPL and CL player.

In fact if Barca are soooo keen on Mascherano then they can give us Yaya Toure (ready made replacement) + Gudjohnson (solves the 2nd striker issue) + cash (allow us to bring in another wide player) for him. Sounds too easy but I would like to see this happen ...... if Mascherano is to go that is. If not then forget about the Yaya Toure bit and pay up the £3m for Gudjohnson Rafa  :idea

I would love to see Yaya Toure at LFC.  He looked awesome in the CL last year, and can even cover at CB if needed.

If Masch were to go, then having Toure in a swap plus cash deal would be something I could live with for sure.

Rather have him any day of the week over Owen.  :lookaround

STURRIDGE SET TO JOIN CHELSEA
Posted 23/06/09 17:33

Manchester City's talented teenager Daniel Sturridge is to join Chelsea this summer but the exact fee will be decided by a tribunal.

The two clubs have failed to reach an agreement on a suitable compensation package but as the player is under 24, he is not available to sign on a Bosman-style free transfer.

The 19-year-old's contract expires at the end of the summer and City are looking to get a 'development fee' of around £10 million from Chelsea.

Chelsea's valuation of the teenager is thought to be somewhat lower at an estimated £3 million.

City rejected Chelsea's initial package and it is now likely that a settlement of around £5 million will be agreed which will include a number of add-on clauses related to performance and appearances.

Sturridge is one of the game's top prospects and highly rated by City boss Mark Hughes.

But the player is understood to have staggered City by demanding a contract worth a reported £55,000-a-week.

Sturridge was approached by Chelsea's Sporting Director, Frank Arnesen, who had been monitoring the player's progress for three years.

Sturridge made 16 league appearances for City last season and scored four goals.

shame... seemed like a good player and dont know if he'll be seeing much playing time with Chelsea... hope they loan him out to one of the smaller clubs in the prem where he can play regularly... seems good enough despite his age...

Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their interest in Swedish striker Marcus Berg according to reports in Holland.

Rafa Benitez is set to add to his striking options this summer after letting Robbie Keane return to Tottenham in the winter transfer window and Berg is now the favourite to fill the void.

Berg has attracted the interest of Ajax and Fiorentina but is thought to favour a move to the Premiership with Dutch club Groningen willing to let their prize asset leave for around 12 million euros.

The Groningen striker scored 15 goals in 25 games in his debut season in the Dutch Eredivisie last year. The 22-year-old has impressed again this season with 17 goals in 30 games and this form has convinced Benitez to table an official offer with Groningen in an attempt to avoid a bidding war with other clubs.

Benitez has also been linked with moves for Luis Suarez of Ajax and Edin Džeko who currently plays for VfL Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga.

Have to say lads, I'm relieved we didn't go in for Sturridge.  He's done nothing yet apart from show a bit of potential.  And he's not on a 'free' either.  He's under 21 so it goes to tribunal - and apparently it's likely to be 5 million quid according to SSN today.  Plus he's going to be on high wages.

He'll do fu.ck all at Chelsea too - he's far too lightweight to play the lone striker in the system they play.  So he'll either be used as an impact sub or they'll try and covert him into a wide player.  My bet is on the latter.  Expect him to be loaned out in January.

he was the most hyped played on the Brazil U20 team. But it was supposed to be Marquinhos, but he was hurt. Anyway he went missing in a lot of games and was even benched midway through the tournament. He did have a couple moments of brilliance though and earned his starting spot back by the end. He is sort of a Robinho type player and although is very talented, is very hit and miss

his highlights from the U20. He is number 8.  Walter is number 9 the one who stood out more IMO  I thought 3-4 other Brazilians were more impressive than Douglas Costa as well as a couple of lads from Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay.

highlights with Gremio (Lucas's old team )
