Personally I don't think in most cases it has anything to do with their abilities, just simply clearing out all the Parry men.

Surely Rafa is not that sort of person to get rid of people purely on the reason they were associated with Parry ?

? not once did i see our team turn up without a kit.

This is down to Rafa getting the power to do what he like at the club due to his contract.

Rafa has got rid of 135 years of experience between them all.

People get fired all the time from clubs - yes they have been around the club a while but rafa is the manager and wants things done his way so we got to let him - No place in the world for sentiment . There is nothing wrong with a clean sweep and to change things and try new things out - if 12 months from now we have success and trophies will people be bothered who got fired then ? doubtful . People want results and maybe the guys who have been fired just have given the results Rafa wants .

Nemeth was meant to this year but got injured early. I think next season we should see him.

Newly appointed Academy director Frank McParland outlines some of the changes he is overseeing as a new and exciting era begins down in Kirkby.

There has been much speculation recently on the future direction of the Academy.

I was asked by Rafa Benitez to conduct a strategic review of the Academy earlier this year. The conclusions of that review have been fully accepted and agreed by Rafa and his technical team and will now be implemented under my direction. I will continue to report directly to Rafa.

Clearly, there are going to be changes in both personnel and the way we do things at the Academy, but uppermost in our minds is need to provide the best possible environment for the future development of all our young footballers.

It has been decided that separate branding for the Academy will no longer be used - including the sign on top of our building. The Academy is an integral part of the club and will now be badged accordingly. It has a hugely important part to play in the future success of Liverpool FC and the change reflects that fact.

There will be much closer liaison between Melwood and the Academy, and Rafa himself has been hugely supportive of the direction in which we want to move forward.

We will examine every part of the Academy's operation and will be looking to make improvements not just in the coaching set-up, but also in areas such as medical, physio and fitness work. One new initiative will see the appointment of a head of sports science, who will tailor specific programmes for individual age groups to help them progress more quickly.

We will also assess the current facilities and where necessary invest in upgrading these. We have already committed to renewing both of the astro-turf pitches and work on this project will begin shortly.

I spoke before of changes in the staffing structure and our first appointment has been Jose Segura, who took up his role as Academy technical manager on June 1.

Jose brings huge experience to the role, having worked at Barcelona for both their youth system and Barca B team, where he helped develop world class players such as Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Victor Valdes, Bojan Krkic, Mikel Arteta and Cesc Fabregas.

He has also had great success in Greece, at both AEK Athens and later as manager at Olympiakos where he led the side to a Greek League and Cup double. Jose is a great appointment and the first of several key positions which we need to fill.

Work continues to identify the best possible people to get the Academy working properly again and producing players that can progress through to the first team. I hope to be able to confirm other additions to our team within the next month.

Jose will bring with him experience and ideas from working in other countries and it's important going forward that we combine the best influences from abroad with what I see as the English mentality. This to me embodies passion, aggression and desire. We want players who are hungry to play football and achieve success with Liverpool. We need to return to the philosophy of passing and moving quickly. We have to develop a winning mentality in every one of our players.

To be honest if Rafa decided it was a good idea to shoot all the youth players, some on here would think it was a good first positive step

If these steps help produce and develop better players for the first team then we will all hail it as a master stroke - lets see what he can do for people like pacheco who has reached that stage now where his development is key - he seems to have all the talent in the world it now needs to be rounded to make him a very good player .

well can someone tell my why John Wright, masseur and kit man was got rid of, the guy has done nothing wrong as is great at his job. this is just if your face dont fit then you are sacked.

Maybe Rafa wants a total overhaul and to bring in his own people and yes that includes the person who hands out the pants and gives a back rub . Like i said Lakes there is no place for sentiment and he may of been at the club for a number of years but there is no harm in having a change - yes hard on the outgoing guy but im sure he isnt the lfirst and wont be the last kit man to be fired .

Tell me lads because I´ve been asleep in the back of me cave for the last 12 months - are we in a global financial crisis or not? Have all companies worldwide been tightening the belt and laying off people or not? And is LFC not in a bigger financial pickle than most companies thus leading to an urgent need to reorganise?

We should stop looking for deviousness in everything the club does ffs its getting mighty boring. The club is in trouble and it needs to slim down accordingly. No one complained when Stevie G increased his contract to 130,000 a week until 2013 or Nando to 120,000 a week....... thats why these lads have been made redundant because of the greed of the stars.... and in the survival of the fittest its hello Stevie and goodbye Angel.

Rafa: "Hi Frank, can you do a review of our academy, if you find any problems we will let you step in and take over on a good wage"

Frank: "ok Rafa" (thinks) haha, I will find problems even if they don't exist and get me a nice fat contract
