A 2 mil deal for Distin is a good bit of business for a proven cb to give us cover and depth

Why do we have to buy in a 2 million player when we have a 40 man squad and 50 in the academy?

If we start doin' that then we should fire half the squad and half the academy because they're obviously :censored:.

The transfer window has only been open 4 days, don't start everyone panicking already

We'll make signings, just don't expect more than one big priced player.

It is becoming obvious who the main players will be this summer...if it wasn't obvious before!!

City, Chelsea and Real leading the spending and I would expect Manure to drop a fair wad too.

Facts are we can't compete for the likes of

Kaka, Teves, Villa, SIlva, Ribery and the likes....

and we need players of that calibre to take the title next year, as all the top 4 (well the other 3) will buy big.

It looks to me that our more realistic targets will be the likes of

Tuncay
Owen
Wheater
Sturridge

Dozens of 17 year old wonderkids who we'll never see in the first team squad, never mind first 11.

Whilst all are decent players with Prem experience, none of them would be guaranteed to improve our first 11.

It's a worry...and I do wonder why that Arab bloke wants to splash his cash on fecking Pompey....why won't someone rid us of these dozy American conts?

Frustating, and I hope I am proved wrong withthe signings of

Any of Silva, Tevez, Villa, and a decent RB.

Silva and Tuncay . If we could get these two , thats alot of quality added to the squad , but
for me , it seems like benni and tuncay are the same type of players . Benni is more creative and
tuncay is much more physical , either way it will be a good signing .

Add tevez and a rightback . Nex season we might at least get a silverware and of course with the players like kuyt and benni maintaining their form .

don't see where you are getting "imminent" from. Especially with Silva.

whoa there neddy!  we nearly won this ferking league with the team we have now - we aint too far away from a title winning squad here. 3 playrs needed at the most and rafa knows that! dont expect to buy every tom, d!ck and harold just cos mancs, real, chelsea and that poor excuse for a team citeh will lay down big bucks - so what? WE NEARLY WON THE LEAGUE WITH OUR CURRENT SQUAD. I know what some will say now, "well nearly isn't good enuf". I agree but we aint that  far away from it. :;):

The Spain international midfielder could be on his way out of Anfield this summer due to a breakdown in his relationship with manager Rafael Benitez...

Manchester City are preparing a move for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso during the close-season, according to a report in the British tabloid the Daily Mirror.

The Spain international has been heavily linked with Primera Division giants Real Madrid, who have apparently made an approach but are yet to make an official offer.

A bid in the region of €22.5 million (£20m) could land the 6ft playmaker, despite reports earlier in the week that the Reds might hold out for closer to €40m (£35.5m).

But the Citizens are ready to rival los Blancos and have placed the midfielder at the top of their wanted list.

It seems that the 27-year-old is very likely to leave Anfield as his relationship with manager Rafael Benitez has deteriorated since he was put up for sale last summer.

Benitez may be prepared to cash-in on the former Real Sociedad star this year, but he wants Alonso to hand in a transfer request so that it does not look like the midfielder is being forced out of the Merseyside outfit.

However, it seems that any potential deal may be held up as Alonso does not want to hand in a request.

Should he be allowed to leave, it is thought that Real Madrid and possibly even Barcelona will be in for the player, who is said to be keen to return to his country of birth.

Joining City, on the other hand, would allow his family to remain in the north west of England, where they have settled.

Not even a made up quote from "a source close to Alonso...."

I love this time of year, 99% of transfer stories are complete rubbish
