Anyone know why he hasn't played that much this season? Has he just been injured a lot or has he been of form?

He was injured so they used Alex, then Carvalho struggled to break back into the side

Carvalho wont come to a top prem team like ourselves...his reasons for leaving (as stated) are to play football not rot on the bench. he'll go back to somewhere warmer where he gauranteed a start.

I've waited to see us linked with this guy since before he went to Boro.

Liverpool interested in Middlesbrough flop Tuncay

Boro flop Tuncay has revealed he could be thrown a Premier League lifeline by Liverpool.

Boss Rafa Benitez ran the rule over the Turkey international in the final weeks of the season, and despite Teeside club's misery of relegation, he liked what he saw.

Middlesbrough struggled because of a lack of goals, but Benitez is looking for a striker who is happy to fill as a support striker to the free-scoring Fernando Torres, and be prepared to act as back up from the bench.

Tuncay fits the bill, with his selfless running and great industry in creating chances for others, and he explained yesterday that he was aware of interest from Anfield.

"Yes, I've heard something about that, but nothing official has arrived to me. Of course I would like to play for a big club," he said.

With Boro desperate to restructure their finances after dropping into the Championship, they would accept a reasonable offer for the Turk.

Benitez has been looking for fourth striker who won't break the bank, following the sale of Robbie Keane, to allow him to concentrate his summer transfer funds on other key areas in his squad.

It emerged last night that the Liverpool boss is pursuing Spain international winger david Silva with some vigour, and met with him in their native country earlier this week.

Silva told his fellow Spaniard that he would love to play in the Premier League, but there is still the stumbling block of the fee his club Valencia are demanding.

Benitez would pay around £17million for the 23 year old, but if his heavily indebted Spanish side try to spark an auction with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, then he will pull out of the bidding.

The Anfield manager showed that he is not prepared to get into a bidding war this week, when he swiftly pulled the plug on a deal to sign Gareth Barry.

The Mirror can reveal that Liverpool did make a last gasp bid to snatch the Villa midfielder from Manchester City's clutches late on Tuesday night, but were ultimately put off by the player's wages.

Benitez spoke to Barry to try to persuade him to choose Anfield, but when he learnt the England man was being offered £90,000 a week by City, he reluctantly pulled out of the running.

Yea hes a good little player isnt he..... hope we get him as backup... him and Owen should be good enough to sort out our forward positions for cheap.. leaves us with plenty to spend on wingers and maybe our backline...

Carvalho is one the best centerbacks in the world ... until last year i would have said he was the best... Ferdinand, Vidic and to a less extent Terry have all been brilliant this season while Carvalho was out for most of it so he's out of the headlines for now ... but no doubting hes one of the best if not THE BEST when hes fit ...

Tuncay and Owen would bolster our need to strikers very well indeed. Was never in favour of Owen's return but if he's happy to play back up I'm happy to have him here, Tuncay would more than likely to content on the bench consiering where he was before as well.

Hope it's true Rafa's been metting Silva, we may just have a good summer after all

Manchester City are plotting a £50 million double swoop for Samuel Eto'o and Carlos Tévez.

The prospect of playing the two strikers in tandem in a team already featuring Robinho would give City one of the most exciting forward lines in the Barclays Premier League.

Garry Cook, the chief executive, has spent several weeks putting together a package that he hopes will persuade Eto'o, the Barcelona striker, to move to the City of Manchester Stadium.

With City willing to offer a fee in the region of £25 million for Eto'o, Barcelona would prefer to cash in now rather than lose him for nothing when his contract expires at the end of next season.

Joan Laporta, the Barcelona president, appeared to hint yesterday that Eto'o could leave Spain this summer, although the Cameroon striker, 28, must decide if he is willing to forgo the Champions League for a season at least and accept the riches on offer at City.

“The football market is very dynamic and there might be a surprise because he [Eto'o] is a much-coveted player,” Laporta said.

Tévez will make a decision on his future within the next seven days after Manchester United made the Argentina striker a take-it-or-leave-it offer yesterday.

Kia Joorabchian, the businessman whose companies own the economic rights to Tévez, spent two hours in “cordial” talks at Old Trafford with David Gill, the United chief executive, who has agreed to pay the £25.5 million required to secure the player's permanent signing after accepting defeat in his efforts to drive down the price.

But if Tévez decides to leave the champions, City are ready to pounce, having informed Joorabchian that they will pay the full fee and wages of at least £135,000 a week.

Mark Hughes, the City manager, confirmed his interest in Tévez yesterday. “Carlos Tévez is a good player and when good players become available, obviously every manager is interested,” he said.

City made the first big domestic purchase of the summer transfer window on Tuesday with the signing of Gareth Barry, the England midfield player, from Aston Villa for £12 million. If their ambitious plan to recruit Eto'o and Tévez fails, they are likely to turn to Diego Forlán, the Atlético Madrid striker, and Thierry Henry, a team-mate of Eto'o.

Oh well... Etoo is too similar to Torres imo but he'd still make one hell of a buy for 25mill... just being greedy here arent i... but seriously he could play down either flank i guess and still be better than anything we got by quite some margin..
