Best Defender - Jamie Carragher, best of a defence that's made a few too many mistakes. He's rescued us a few times and even filled in at RB
Best Midfielder - Gerrard, don't think it needs a lot of explaining given his phenomenal goals contribution
Best Forward - no brainer, Torres (about our only forward used regularly in that role worth mentioning)
Best Newcomer - Riera was the only summer signing that has established himself in the 1st XI
Best Young Player (under 22) - for want of too many options I'll say Insua, largely because Lucas is now 22 so that narrows down the alternatives. (N'Gog, Insua, Plessis plus reserves/youth players of whom few have made 1st team appearances)
You might want to clarify when they had to be under 22, now or at the start of the season.
Player of the Season - Gerrard. Runner-Up, Kuyt. (as he deserves a mention in "seasons best", but this is about the only category he's in contention for (not under 22, not used as a forward, not a match, not a newcomer, not a defender)
Goal of the Season - maybe not the best passing move, strike etc, but I'm going to say Babel vs Man Utd at Anfield. For the significance and boost it gave us, for the way we won the ball in the penalty area, Kuyt picked up the pieces and passed to Babel to complete a comeback and first win over the mancs in the league under Rafa. Without it we'd be a further three points behind them. (we drop two, they gain one)
Match of the Season - Man Utd 1-4 Liverpool. Going behind to them again, the only team to win there this season and it gave us some hope of catching them. I've said before, ask me after this match if we can win the league and it proved that important in the title race. It has also shown we're about the only side capable of winning at old trafford, that being a big problem since we drop way too many points at home and we need them to drop points.
