dont think it will be a hammering, Newcastle are garbage but they are fighting for there lives right now, and we consistently play badly against low quality opposition, but i still think we should win this fairly comfortably, probably 2-0 id say.

I'm going to say 4:1. Our defence has been shakey lately and they will attack so I can see them getting one. Maybe it will be our former hero

Time to inject a bit of realism here...

2-0.............

...er, to us.

I Don't expect this to be the rollover that last meeting was, but it should be a comfortable enough professional win.

I'm irrationally fearful about this game

as i posted above, shearer and his players have all come out and said they'll be happy with a point. Viduka always scores against us, and our defence is v leaky at the moment.  Very unsettling :(

Owen accepts Anfield defeat

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has already given up any hope of Newcastle United finding precious points to save them from relegation at Anfield this weekends.

Liverpool entertain the struggling Magpies in this Sunday’s 1.30pm kick-off, having beaten them 5-1 at St James’ Park earlier this season.

Owen, who left Liverpool in search of silverwear for Real Madrid in 2004, says he is already looking ahead to getting points in the side’s two remaining home games.

He says, “We go to Liverpool next and we finish the season at Aston Villa and, if we can get some points from those games, then of course we’ll grasp them. But, being realistic, it’s the home games that are our major focus now.”

Newcastle currently lie 18th in the table, three points inside the relegation zone with four games to go.

dont care what the score is as long as we win - can see a 2 nil or 3 nil but would be happy with a 1 -0

Joey Barton may return to play against Liverpool

ALAN SHEARER could be ready to hand Joey Barton a mission on the Mersey for Newcastle United’s daunting trip to Anfield on Sunday.

The Scouse midfield star has not appeared since breaking his metatarsal at Manchester City, but was back on the bench for the frustrating stalemate with Portsmouth on Monday night.

The Chronicle understands Barton is straining at the leash to be part of Newcastle’s survival bid.

The one-time England international is desperate to aid his side during their moment of dire need, and boss Shearer knows if anybody is capable of firing things up to take on the Kop it is the former City favourite.

With Liverpool gunning for the title and knowing they must win too if they are to keep their bid alive, Barton’s presence would not only help frustrate the Reds but also play a huge factor in a home atmosphere which manager Rafa Benitez will be desperately trying to keep positive.

Shearer told the Chronicle today: “It was not right to put Barton in on Monday night.

“However, he will be having a full week’s training this week.

“He will have that behind him for the weekend.

“He could be involved at Anfield.

“It all depends on how his training goes this week.

Nah, no need for vicious tackles on Barton....

What you REEAALLLLY need, is for Masch to sneak up behind him, tap him on the shoulder, and when Barton turns around....tell him....quietly...

Newcastle have been poor on their travels this season.. Recording only 2 wins 6 draws and 9 losses. Scoring 16 and conceding 26.. Anything could happen considering their situation but im sure will win this one. Mannures fixture list is tight from now to finish. Crucial they drop points againt boro.

N'Gog starts for the ressies tonight and Nemeth is not in the team.   Maybe Nemeth will be on the bench against Newcastle?
