I know that Reina sent the ball in for Dossena's goal

Does anyone know if Reina would get an assist on it?

The fanzone thing was a classic, I was p!ssing meself watching that. The Manc fella was absolutely gutted   .

As for Bams call on Aurelio, I lost faith in him meself a couple of months back. After really liking him I began to call him a "fairly average left back" in the Aurelio thread. He just seemed to me like he was going through the motions a bit, protecting himself during matches. The stuff I'd like about him he'dkind of stopped doing, and such was/is his injury record I begining to ask whether he was worth the bother. His performance Away at madrid though was the watershed. That was the one where if he does become a World Class left back, he'll look back at that one and say that was the one where it really clicked.

There, in the Home game and on Saturday he was absolutely faultless. He's always tucked in and pushed out almost perfectly, and had a sweet left foot. What I've really liked though as he's got more confident is that that not only does he nudge out and get tight to his opponent, he's happy now to stand him up and snap a tackle in. It's the tenacity with which he is doing this, almost like he attacks the ball carrier rather than waiting for his trick which has really stood out for me. Watching a really good full back play against a top winger is always a great contest, there's something of the mongoose and the snake in the way the defender has to put doubt into his attackers mind. Aurelio did this to both Robben abd Ronaldo, and there is no bigger compliment that their respective managers getting them to switch wings because they are getting no change out of the Brazillian.

Confidence being what it is, such a priceless commodity to a footballer I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that after seemingly numerous rubbish free-kicks he now decides to bend one over the wall and in against Man Utd. It really is just fingers crossed that he stays fit now, because the way he's playing I'll bet he can't wait for the next game. "Average leftback" my erse, I should have known better.

"They were not the better team, we were the worse team (I dont remember van der saar having to work that hard except for the goals which were largely our free gifts to them). Although it means quite the same, but its not. its like the 'half full , half empty cup' thing."

From one of the Manc forums, hahahahahahaha.

Our left side was only really an issue with the Brazilian injured and Dossena really struggling to adapt to the pace of the EPL. Insua did a job for us and looks a decent option and would probably be ahead of Dossena for the time being. Whether or not the Italian really starts to sort his act out is a matter of time and patience, but with his last dozen or so appearances on the left side, he's starting to show that there is at least a glimmer of potential there and a reason why we shelled out money for him. His finish against the Mancs was sublime, and nothing should be taken away from it. Riise would have simply put his boot through that in typical fashion for him.

I've always rated Aurelio and stated a few times that we were really feeling the effects of having him out of the side and emphasized that we needed strengthening on both full back positions. That's not the case anymore. If anything, we're very short for the right full back position should Arby get injured. Degan is never going to cut it and is simply here to make profit for a sale. He was a freebie, so if we get a lousy million for him, who could complain?

Still, several years on and it's still evident that our right side needs some real quality there. We need a decent back-up for Arbeloa, another striker, and perhaps a versatile winger a'la Giggs or Kewell that can be interchanged to play on either side.  Of course, this is IMO. There is nothing majorly wrong with our squad at the moment. It just needs that little bit of extra depth, and looking at our bench on Saturday concerned me. However, in saying this, when I looked at theirs and looked at who they had to bring on, they did f*ck all, and Dozy Dossena came up with the goods in emphatic style.

On the subject of the match, it was great to see Aruelio keep Gay Bar in his pocket the whole game; but it wouldn't really have been possible as much if it hadn't have been for the other Brazilian which I haven't really seen get credit for his work on the pitch. He was sloppy on occasion and drove me mental, but looking at his other aspect of play, which was sweeping from side-to-side and helping to double up and protecting the full-backs, it was a seriously praiseworthy performance from Lucas in the absence of Xabi Alonso. I dare say that he actually lend a massive role of bossing their midfield so that Gerrard and Torres could go do their stuff. Lucas wouldn't have been my MoTM, but he would be close. He did the unnoticed and silent job so solidly and professionally.

It's been an absolutely fantasitc week but as a die hard fan who goes home and away it does your head in. We have beaten Chelsea and United home and away yet failed to score a goal against Stoke.

At least it makes the title race a bit more interesting. I thought we could win but I never envisaged a 4-1 win. Whatever anyone says, Gerrard and Torres ae the best in their positions in the world.

Rooney jumping up and down flapping his hands... priceless.

Gerrard kissing the camera... priceless

Dossena double, 2 in 2 against Real and the Mancs... priceless

Drunken Scot saying he thought his team played better than us... priceless

could go on and on... brilliant game, got it recorded on TeVo...

It's not over yet. I think Arsenal can win there too and Villa are capable of maybe getting a point too.

You could tell that the media were absolutely gutted by the result. All I've heard in the last few weeks is how thois is tje greatest United team ever. What a joke. It may be the best squad but this team is so overrated. They've played well about three times all season.

The media aren't much better. We battered Real Madrid and they were "poor". United beat Inter and it was a "professional job" despite the fact that Inter were nothing better than a pub team. Unite should have bee 3-0 up in the first leg!

In a way it was nice timing that this result came just as everyone was wan.king over how they are the 'best team in the world'. Doesn't matter what they say no one can take this result away from us. And also finally a penalty given at their ground.:D

Seriously I was embarrassed yesterday, I was unfortunate/fortunate enough to be stuck in the stretford end for the match and by the time we had scored our forth goal myself and my mate were the only people in our row of 120 seats.
Added to that the poor showing from their supporters during the game, the only time the crowd sang was to give abuse to our players and staff, even that was half hearted, only once did I hear them sing the name of their own players.
I don't know if it has been mentioned here but Gerrards reaction after he scored the goal was down to the fact that the united crowd had just been singing their version of our chant, which the sing about him kissing the badge, his celebration shut them up for the rest of the match. i never thought a players actions on the pitch would be able to take as much passion out a crowd as that celebration did.
