i only mean we need an english striker for the situation. there are a ton of reasons i say this but i've only got time for one. and i'll use shearer to make my point.
we've got baros and cisse up there right now, neither of whom are native english speakers or native speakers of eachother languages. (i'm not suggesting that they be constantly chatting with eachother on the pitch, but it does make a difference) this is important because neither of them, in my opinion, is a 'dominant' striker. cisse needs to work to become one and baros will never be. put shearer up there with cisse and you've got a proven, experienced goalscorer and an on-the-rise player with some serious potential who in the very least provides a shot of energy to the team. shearer would make it easier for cisse to acclimate to the epl, as it would seem almost a designated part of his job to do so. his experience would instantly provide a legitimate partnership in the front.
now, imagine a core of english players running through the pitch (with a switch at keeper) kirkland-carragher-gerrard-shearer. you don't think that would improve the flow of the ball noticeably? i realize it's pretty intangible but i just believe that mentally gerrard would be much more comfortable feeding the ball to shearer than baros. couple that with his potential benefit to cisse and you've got more than enough reason to want shearer.
and let's not forget how much more the fans would love shearer than baros.
