Off topic a bit, but hows Finnan getting on in Spain?

Stick Torres in the team from 2004/5 and which team would you put your money on ?

Apologies - missed that bit

Torres in 2004/2005 was only 19, he was too inconsistent back then

  I honestly don't believe you can win a CL without having a decent team, no matter how much luck or how good a manager you have. The 2004/5 team was pretty good, the problem was Houllier had drastically weakened the squad over the previous couple of years before he went. (Which is what worries me now about Rafa)

Anelka/McCallister/Rednapp/Barmby/Litmenen/Berger/Heggam had all left in the couple of years before for various reasons with poor to very poor replacements. Add Heskey and Owen to that list and there was a decent squad somewhere in there.

I think he's been suffering from injuries in Spain Mick. He's also eager to get back to English football. He may have a shot in the Summer, I think Hull was interested at one point.

In short, I think he was very unhappy to go and is not too happy at Espanyol.

the question should not be whether we have improved under benitez, the question should be have we improved enough under benitez considering the time he has had and the money he has spent.

have we improved?  yes, but to be fair houllier was dire
have we improved enough?  no, nowhere near enough

Nice thread. Not the same though are they?

Anything to say now? On this one?

Without it being a competition, that thread cataloged the various opinions and how they have changed (practically match to match). Since that thread there have been many basically saying the same thing but without the timeline. That is all.

Competition? You posted up a link to your thread last year, what the fuck for?

I was asking for your opinion now re. this topic, not your opinion on your thread and other threads.

That is all.

GYBS, I appreciate your point earlier - but looking back you are just as guilty.
(Im sure you got a ban for doing something similar)
Sir Roger - try and not be an @rse - make a point and back it up with reason.

What's with the one-liners? "Yea mate I think so", "Yea mate I dunno", "Dya think mate, hope so" and so on and so on ??!!

As I say, dont turn threads into a chat room. It's quite easy, taken an aspect of a post - say whether you agree
or not and then WHY you agree or not.

I doubt whether I'll ever bother putting the same effort into starting a thread if it gets treated like a chat room.  :no

I am not trying to be an @rse
I am merely giving my opinion and letting off steam
As a newer member of this forum it seems to me that there is a significant pecking order in which the ones at the top tell the others below how to behave
Just because people have been here longer doesnt mean they know more or their opinion is more valid
Statistics can be used to show anything
So what?
Its ALL about peoples opinions which should be encouraged by liverpool fans, from liverpool fans
I am a grown man with a family who has been a red for over 40 years and just because some miserable bleed.er wants to express their opinion without reply that means nothing to me

I believe that all supporters of this club and anyone else who has passion for the LFC has as much right to congratulate, moan, praise and criticise as much as they want
Humourless banter is not (as far as I am concerned) what being a scouse red is all about
I will take and give stick because I am secure in the knowledge that I am a red through and through and I have brought my kids up to be the same
So come on fellas
Lighten the fu.ck up and disagree to your hearts content, but with some good natured insults thrown in

Its the Liverpool way...

OK then, my opinion is in that thread that I linked. You seem a little over protective over this thread.

One thing that hasn't really been mentioned is the FA cup.

04/05 3rd round
05/06 WON
06/07 3rd round
07/08 5th round
08/09 4th round

apart from 06 when we won it we are hardly showing that we are the cup kings that we think we  are ?

Admittedly our FA cup exploits BEFORE Rafa where nothing to write home about, but in the previous 10 years before he came we only failed to reach the 4th round once. We have fallen at the first hurdle twice under Rafa.

In consultation with Effes, I've merged his Rafa progress thread with Kazza's earlier thread on the same subject.  This seems like a very good discussion that can and should continue without difficulty despite the merger.  As you were. :blues:

Thing is s@int - The Champs League exploits fit snugly into that record.
It's Rafa's trump card without a doubt.

Houllier                                      Rafa

99/00 - 4                                04/05 - 5   1 CUP
00/01 - 3  3 CUPS                    05/06 -3    1 CUP
01/02 - 2                                06/07 -3
02/03 - 5  1 CUP                       07/08-4
03/04 - 4                               Possible 2nd

Looking at the last five years of Houllier and Rafa, unless Rafa finishes 2nd this season, Houllier will have a BETTER record in the league. In the cups I suppose it depends what weight you put on the CL. is a CL win equal to or better than 2 league cup wins and a UEFA CUP ?

Whichever way you look at it I don't think there has been £200million of progress

We are one of the most feared teams in Europe. That has to be progress!
