New striker? - Please can we discuss it in here

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Scottbot » Sun Feb 01, 2009 9:53 pm

The Rumour Mill section of this forum sucks, no-one goes in there. With less than 24 hours to go till the window closes can't we have a bit of transfer goss and discussion in here for a bit? Clearly we need a new forward, someone who can contribute immediately. It could be a buy (if Keane is flogged back to Spurs) or a loan signing. I don't really have a clue who is available in the European market but i'm sure there are several options out there. I like Gudjonsen, he fots the bill in that, he hasn't been getting so many games at Barca (is that still the case Sabes?), he's a big lad, he's skillful and knows what it takes in England. Other than that, Saviola could be worth a gamble but I don't know about too many others.

- Who might be available on loan? any ideas? and why would they be a good fit for us?

- Is there anyone in the EPL who could come in? I like Santa Cruz but he is silly money now that City are interested. Jones at Sunderland is another one I quite like but again, silly money. I'd love Arshavin and can't understand why the skinflints at Arsenal are baulking at the £15 million asking price. Not gonna happen but stick this kid behind Torres and watch the goals flow.

Didn't Rafa say just after the match that Keane will still be a Liverpool player come the end of the deadline tomorrow? So im not sure exactly what you are expecting to happen but I certaintley dont expect a new striker to be announced. Not until the Summer anyway.

As for Arshavin they are unwilling to meet Zenits price becasue the player can buy out his contract and come for free in the Summer. Taking that into account Zenit are playing a dangerous game trying to hold out for 15Mil but Arsenal are desperate for someone creative.

hope this is a player Rafa actually wants  :D

That rumours been doing the rounds for a bit now. Lennon is from Leeds I think (or somewhere very close he was there as a kid) and probably wouldn't be the first young fella to not take to London.

I'm not a huge fan of his TBH, but at least he an offensive right sided player which would be a bit of a novelty for us. He has pace and can beat a bloke, and if rafa is going for him it would signal something of a change in direction as he's not really a work up and down the line right midfielder. All in all given our current personel I'd take Lennon, but I still think we need a striker if we are to let Keane escape.

We should get Lennon, at least he is direct asnd skins people and is improving on his end product now.

As for a striker we should try and get Gudjohson from Barca on loan.

don’t know if he has been mentioned but Henrik Larsson wouldn’t be a bad option at all. The Swedish season finished in November I think and it doesn’t restart until March. We might be able to negotiate a deal with Helsingborgs to have him on loan until May.

He would be a great backup to Torres and is a proven goal scorer at all levels. Also, he is supposed to be a top pro and keeps himself fit in between seasons by playing other sports.

Eider Gudjohnsen on loan would also be a good deal.

If Keane is to go I would go for both Gudjohnsen and Larsson on loan until the end of the season.

feckin ssn full of sh1t! (i sincerly hope so) lennon is not the answer to our attacking options! he's a fecking so called winger not a cf. he was pretty good a couple of seasons ago, but not now. imho this is a real insult to keane, & i'm to busy enjoying our result today to take it seriously. LET'S GET MASHED & ENJOY TODAY'S RESULT.

Sell keane, get Gudjonsen on loan and buy a quality right winger in the summer instead.

When asked did he think Keane would stay he said "I think so".
It's just the standard managers response to questions like that, everyone knows Rafa doesn't give anything away in interviews, unless he's being asked about Mr. Alex Ferguson that is  :D

One option would be to chase Jo from Man City. I know he's been absolutely :censored: for them but the guy is not with out talent and we could pick him up on loan pretty easily. If we got rid of Keane he's the only guy I can think of that we could get on such short notice that fits our needs.

I think he'd be worth a shout for a 6 month loan with a buyout option

Would City be prepared to make a 13Mil loss? I doubt it. Then again they paid 14mil for dejong who they could have got for 2milin the summer.
