In other words, he's not ready, so he shouldn't be playing for us now.

Let's have a collection next match for "Lucas Aid" - to help poor and weak Brazilian footballers gain the extra skills and strength to gain a place in their team's starting XI. Might need another £5m to do that, might as well have spent £10m on a fully developed midfielder. How much did Pompey pay for Diarra? We could have paid that and either kept him or sold him at a tidy profit.
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

good god man, if lucas got anymore simple he'd be classed as a retard

Funny how we didn't call Alonso a retard when he played the exact same way for over a season, huh?

Lucas may not be the Liverpool player you want him to be, but he isn't an a-hole like some of the others.

By all means, comment on his lack of skill, but he's done nothing to deserve these sort of comments.

:no

And read the rest of the post for crying out loud :D

Lucas played briliantly in a more attacking role against Newcastle. He looked at home along side Mascherano pulling the strings and combining with Gerrard to great affect. Certainly showed to me that this kid has class, even if he does only show it once in a blue moon.

Was fairly impressed with his performance today. Made some excellent runs and linked up really well on occassions with other players and actually looked interested. Lets be honest though, its the first good game (very good game) that he's had here.

If he put that sort of performance in once every three games he wouldn't get half the flack he's had. But for me the lad deserves all the critisism he gets, today though we can all lay off him as he was probably the second best player on the pitch.

Just goes to show that in football anything can happen!

Fair comments again stu , just goes to show that he does have the ability , he's just been lacking the gumption and confidence imo.

Lets see if he can do that against a side that turns up before we start bangin on about his ability. Today he shown good things at times. But that could simply be him playing to his maximum alongside other good players playing well against a poor poor side.

Make no mistake, Newcastle were a joke today and every player on their team bar Given and Duff should be ashamed of themselves. Not one player with the exception of those two done ANYTHING right all game.

He's had one good game in two years. If I was playing at that level even I'd expect that. His past performances didn't warrant a start today, this performance warrants one more chance. He has to start doing that consistently. Simple as that.

Ive always said the lad lacked confidence and was played out of possition to much, to the extent half the forum STILL think he's a DM.
He's shown good mental strength raising his game after a bit of jib from the crowd, that would have signalled the end for a lot of young players.
Like Gerrard though I think he'll play best with Alonso.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

he is young and from brazil.. it is going to take time for a young player to adapt to the english or european game as a whole... but if he shows the level of play he showed today he is going to come good... his confidence must be sky high now.. lets hope it continues he showed glimpses of class today.

Time will tell if it was a one-off or the day the penny dropped but he was outstanding today.  Just needed a goal to cap it off.

I don't quite agree that it's the first time he's shown anything, he has from time to time shown little flashes of something but just not on a sustained basis like against Newcastle. It is worth considering that they were absolutely awful, but nevertheless his performance was accomplished and littered with little pieces of quality. His through ball to Gerrard in particular was top drawer, and once again he demonstrated that for a little fella he's unusually good in the air as well.

He's never been as bad as he's sometimes painted, and he's quite possibly not as good as he looked here, but at least it's nice to know that he can actually play a bit. If pushed I would still bet that he'll make a career outside of the Premiership, but that's for some time later down the track. In the meantime, he deserves all the credit for that performance, he was excellent.
