Keep Alonso.

I like the idea of having Barry at LB.

Didn't Barry play a couple of games as LB for Villa earlier this season, to which he made comments that weren't exactly positive (ie he would prefer to play in midfield)? I seem to remember so anyway.

I know what I'd do if I was him...

option 1.  Play midfield for Villa that at best might qualify for uefa cup again.

option 2. Play LB for Liverpool and have a chance of winning the league and the champions league

I'd be changing my position for that option 2.

Barry played LB for a couple years at start of his villa career.
It was this position that cemented his role in the side.

Due to his scoring ability, he then was pushed further upfield and was more of a LWM.

Its only last few years he has played where he has.

I read on goal.com that we are interested in adriano! ???

He used to be a very good player, but his attitude stinks.

Yeah hes one of this players that needs to be treated like a baby otherwise he kicks up a fuss. Rafa would never go for such a player even if he was quality.

Swap deal in January - Various
Liverpool are preparing an interesting swap deal that would see Yossi Benayoun move to Manchester City in exchange for out of favour Brazilian Elano. Who would benefit most from such a deal?

this looks like a good deal to me if true, seen as though  yossi wants to leave.

Bolton Wanderers are lining up a £4.5million bid to bring out of favour Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant to the Reebok Stadium in January, according to reports.

25-year-old Pennant has been at Anfield since joining from Birmingham City in 2006, but has failed to establish himself as a regular starter for the Merseyside club under Reds manager Rafa Benitez and has constantly had to settle for a bit part at Liverpool since his arrival from St Andrews.

Former Arsenal player Pennant has always maintained his desire to remain at Anfield, but is now believed to be ready to leave Liverpool in January in order to further his career in the Premier League, with Trotters boss Gary Megson keen to lure the former England Under-21 International away from Merseyside in a £4.5million deal.

However, whether Pennant sees a switch to the Reebok as the right move remains to be seen, with the Reds winger turning down Premiership debutantes Stoke City in the summer in the hope of a bigger club coming in for him.

One alternative to Bolton could be Blackburn Rovers, who are also said to be interested in bringing Pennant to Ewood Park to replace David Bentley, who left Rovers for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Liverpool are eyeing Hajduk Split striker Nikola Kalinic.

Hajduk Split have already rejected an approach from Valencia for the 20 year-old Croatia international in recent weeks.
And Split sources say Liverpool have now made their interest known, with Palermo and Lille also keen on a player described as a “the future of Croatian football” by national team boss Slaven Bilic.

*********************************************

Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool are both tracking Spanish International defender Raul Albiol of La Liga side Valencia, according to Spanish paper AS.

23-year-old Albiol can play either as a central-defender or a defensive midfielder and has come through the academy set-up at Los Che. After joining Valencia as a 11-year-old, Albiol made his senior debut for the Spanish side in 2005 and has made over 100 league appearances for Valencia during his time at the Mestalla.

Albiol gained his first cap for Spain in 2007 and was a member of their EURO 2008 winning team this summer, with the Spaniard’s performances for club and country attracting interest from the Gunners and the Merseyside club.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to strengthen the centre of his defence and midfield in light of recent results in the Premiership and has identified Albiol as a possible solution to the current problems at the Emirates Stadium. With a move for the Spaniard being mooted in January.

Former Valencia coach Rafa Benitez knows all about Albiol from his time in charge at the Mestalla and is reportedly keen to bring the versatile player to Anfield as he looks to try and secure his first Premier League title this year.

However, Albiol current deal at the Mestalla runs until 2011, with Valencia president Vicente Soriano keen to keep the player in La Liga and has already made moves to discuss a new deal with Albiol to ward off any potential suitors.

Prem trio chase Ronaldo

Ronaldo's agent claims three more Premier League clubs have shown an interest in the Brazilian striker.

The 32-year-old is currently building up his fitness in his homeland after leaving AC Milan at the end of last season.

Manchester City considered a bid for the former Real Madrid ace back in September before appearing to cool their interest.

However, Ronaldo's representative Fabiano Farah has suggested City are still keen, along with three other teams in England.

"For the last three or four months, Ronaldo has been doing two daily sessions of intense rehab and physio, each of up to three hours, six days a week," said Farah in the Sunday Mirror.

"Besides Manchester City, whose interest is already public, three other Premiership clubs have made contact with Ronaldo and are pursuing me.

"I've worked with Ronaldo for more than seven years and I can tell you that for him to play in the Premier League would be the ultimate chapter of his career."

Ronaldo is currently training at Flamengo, who have shown an interest, while Brazilian rivals Corinthians are also weighing up an offer.

Corinthians manager Antonio Carlos says the club's president Andres Sanchez has recently met Ronaldo to discuss a possible deal.

Antion Carlos said: "The president of Corinthians has had meetings with Ronaldo, the last one was last week."

....................................................................................

If he can get himself fit and pass a rigorous medical he might be a good option until the end of the season. After Torres our striking options are looking seriously weak.

He is still a quality finisher and he may be willing to take a contract until the end of the season on not so silly wages.

Rafa won’t go for him but I think it would be a good option to create competition up top for rest of the season.

Ngog isn’t a serious option so we would be in trouble if we picked up a couple of long term injuries.

Albiol is a very good player, but I really don't see how we need him.  Arsenal on the other hand have been interested in him for a while now and I can definitely see them putting in a bid.

A intelligent player who can pick a pass and a creative type which saint has been going on about :D, not really a second striker but i think he can play in the gerrard role in the 4-5-1 . Would love him here but can't see it happening
