Mick we have not played well "really well" in any game apart from the UTD and Chelsea matches!
Spurs and Atleti,we IMO played better than a few games we have won,played better football dominated and looked more like a team.the final product was not there though!Missed the Spurs game yes but have caught up on highlights and read a few guys on here and after talking to my father(a scum fan) on the phone,we done everything right but win!

The debate here is the standard of our football and its my opinion that its been good enough,the table does'nt lie!
Im excited because although uncharacteristically weak at the back on a few occasions and lucky,some would say,we have been good enough to produce when it matters!Our weakness of late IMO has been lack of firepower...Keane scores 2 and the best striker in the world is back!
One third (almost) of the way in we are sitting pretty and I fully believe we have not hit top gear,in fact if we had 5 id say we are just touching 3rd!

Firstly Barry I agree with the second part of your post. The table doesn't lie and we deserve to be top of it. Further, I am excited by the season going forward and I stick to my prediction of the last 12 months or so, I think we'll go very very close to winning the title.

As for our form over the previous three matches to the West Brom one:

We played fairly well against Spurs I thought, making plenty of chances particularly at the start of the second half. We really ought during that fifteen or twenty minute period have put the game to bed. Although they came back into it, over the course of the match we were much the better team. My only gripe about the performance (not the result obviously which was a kick in the b@lls) was the fact that we didn't press home our advantage in the first half, even though we were well on top.

Either side of the Spurs game, against Pompey we were poor lets be honest. It took a rush of blood to the head by Diop to give us an unlikely penalty, and an unlikely win. A win is a win is a win obviously, but we didn't really get going I think it's fair to say.

Against Athletico we didn't play well either, needing a last minute penalty that never was to get us the draw. We weren't awful or anything similar, but the performance was a mile behind even the Spurs one, and further behind how we'd played at Everton or Man City.

It's worth bearing in mind though that in my original post which the fella chose to pick up on, I said that we weren't playing as well as we had been a couple of weeks back. Given the fact that we had beaten Chelsea a couple of weeks back and played fantastically well, I go back to my assertion at the time that I'm amazed that anybody is choosing to dispute the FACT.

This is not a dispute about rotation, to tell the truth it is a nonsense. For some reason, this particular poster has decided to get into a point contained within a perfectly innocent post, and try and dissect it to the nth degree. That of course is his privilage, but given the FACT that he freely admits that one of the games he is talking about and comparing, he hasn't even seen

, I have taken the view that in future I'll not take him too seriously.

Anyway, this is the rotation thread and we ought to debate rotation on here, that is what the thread is about. If we played just as well against Pompey, Spurs and Athletico Madrid as we did against Chelsea, then there is no debate. I don't think we did, but I'm not saying it is as a direct result of rotation either.

I think though as a basic point, to make a judgement as this particular poster is doing, on the relative levels of performance in different matches, you really ought to have seen the match in question. Maybe it's just me, but I kind of think if you haven't seen the game as he hasn't, it's a bit silly entering into debates about performances and concluding one was "very similar" to another.

Absolutely daft debate my friend!
I have not seen the Spurs game but I KNOW we bossed them and played well and should have won!
Why do you always hang on the complete negatives?

Can't say I agree Barry, we had a spell a few weeks back when we played very well. Everton, PSV, Man City(even at 2-0 down we were the better side)Madrid away and Chelsea, before a struggle against Portsmouth, a collapse against Spurs and probably our poorest performance since Wigan against A.Madrid at home.

Hopefully the return of Torres and the relatively easy win against West Brom will set us on course for another string of decent performances.

I still maintain that this season we have been better at preventing the other side playing well than actually playing at our best level ourselves. I think even teams like Arsenal are going to find it very difficult to look good against us. My main worry this season so far has to be how slowly we seem to be starting in a lot of games. I can't think of one game (maybe Chelsea)were we have really started playing well from the off, even Spurs where we got the early goal, we didn't play particularly well for the first 20 mins or so.

Back on track...... I still can't believe how much Rafa has changed in his selection policy from last season. We seem to have two systems that work (4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1) and by judicious use of them we are giving key players a rest without wholesale changes to the team. We have only seen the Portsmouth game where we have seen some real styling. Although I still maintain that but for injuries we may have seen more rotation, he really does seem to be trying to keep our "best team" on the pitch.

The international break will no doubt fk us up again though

I don't know what to say really. In the previous post to this one I said we were much the better team against Spurs and deserved to win.

I also said that we deserved to be top of the league, I was excited by the rest of the season, and that I think we will go very close to winning the title. I also said in that post that we had played "fantastically well" against Chelsea and played them off the park, but I'm hanging on negatives

I do agree with you about it being a daft debate thing though, you're right on that one.

Anyways, this is descending into the surreal. Next time there is a point to be debated which actually has something to do with rotation, I'll come back on here. I feel like I've wandered into some sort of parallel universe the way this one os going now.

Collapse? What do you want?What exactly is a collapse?Is that something that puts ya way down the League?
My personal opinion is that you and mick are so transfixed with being defeated that you both let yourselves become almost anti LFC!
WE ARE A THIRD(almost) THROUGH THE EPL AND TOP OF THE LEAGUE,now forgive me if I cant be doing with..how shi'te we are posts,and all this dirky boy styling thoughtpolice shi'te!
I will now and always look at the facts and positives,can we win the EPL...YES!!

This is what irritates me sometimes on here, you can make a post extolling how well we have done but someone will pick the one sentence which was thrown in for balance and pick it to bits as if the whole post was negative.

I.E. Barry says :-

I think we have played "really well" in a lot more games than that Barry!

Hey S@int if you are going to start using words like collapse don't get me involved by association mate. I said we played fantastically well at Chelsea, played them off the park, fully deserved to beat Spurs, deserve to be top of the league, that I'm excited about the season ahead and think we'll go very very close to winning the title and got accused of "hanging on the negatives" so feck only knows where using words like collapse leaves you

I also made the cardinal error of intimating that we had previously played better than we did in the Pompey/Spurs/Athletico games. I got corrected by a bloke (not Barry) who didn't even see the latest game :laugh:

You've got to love this forum sometimes.

We started slowly again today, that's not a collapse ...... that's starting slowly . I honestly don't have a clue what you are on about.

The crazy thing is I am saying we have played well in MORE games than you are ...... yet I am the negative one ?
