To be honest he was a pretty good player at Lyon.  I think that Chelsea just screwed him up and his attitude is now really poor, so I wouldn't want him anywhere near Liverpool now.

I would be over joyed if we took a player like Quaresma but alas somehow I see us enduring another season with Kuyt on the right flank.

Its criminal really that Benitez and his employers have failed to land a decent wide player during his reign Anfield, and we are now left with the prospect of playing two forwards on either wing. In reality we are still doing what we did with Heskey and Cisse and now with poor old Kuyt playing out of position again. In essence if we buy Quaresma it gives us two new attackers in Babel and Kuyt.

After several failed attempts to rectify this problem that include Gonzalez and Pennant and a few before that I cannot put a name too, its about time they dug deep and brought in a proper wide player so we can stretch teams an open up the pitch for the other lads to play.

I will pray that Quaresma arrives at nfield  :;):

I personally don't see why rafa should be blamed for this as , i don't think its his fault that he does not have the cash to spend on players , he has to buy and seller , the owners have only spent 10 million so far and there's slightly more than a week to go before the transfer market closes , we need a winger , be it , kuba or palacios and hopefully quaresma . The cheapest option would be palacious , who could be around 6 to 8 million .

Rafa spent the cash make no mistake about it !
This season or the seasons before, he always had cash to spend and he always decided against shelling out for proven wingers.
funny how we blame the board for Rafa's failures in the transfer market, and now we blame them for Rafa not wanting to sign a winger too ?
Everyone now knows we have the money to spend and the only reason we havent signed any winger thus far, the way i see it, is because Rafa wants to add another midfielder to our squad in Barry rather than go out and buy a wide player we need.
And about Quaresma and the fella from Dortmund, both good players but if i had my pick id go for Joaquin of Valencia or Downing from Boro. Quaresma is an excellent player and id take him before any of the others but quite simply cant see us signing him anytime soon.

Joe Cole and Quaresma would be great, even if we get one and Kuba, its alot better then our current options. Don't really rate Downing but again he is better then nothing.
Shouldve just kept Kewell, his injury free and played a blinder last night on debut, scored a cracking goal as well.
Despite whats been said I still feel we'll sign Barry.

Stewart Downing will plead with Middlesbrough to listen to any £14million bid from Liverpool.

The winger, a sub in England’s midweek draw with the Czechs, believes his ambitions will be aided by a move to a Champions League club.

Rafa Benitez has been considering an offer all summer, but with his focus on the Gareth Barry saga, Downing’s hopes of a transfer appeared increasingly unlikely.

The Anfield boss has also been in talks with Espanyol for Albert Riera, having given up on Valencia’s David Silva.

Now Rafa is ready to make a last-ditch attempt to solve his left-sided problems — with both Riera and Downing on his agenda.

Riera is valued at £10m by Reds but Everton have bid £12m for the ex-Manchester City midfielder.

That may force Benitez to move for Downing, who may cost £16m.

Pennant in £6m Rovers link
Blackburn plan to bid for Jermaine Pennant this week — but have been told they must pay at least £6million.
Rovers are in informal talks with Liverpool over the 25-year-old winger.

But Kop boss Rafa Benitez is no longer in a rush to sell as he is unsure there is enough time to replace Pennant.

Rovers boss Paul Ince wants the ex-Arsenal man to come in for David Bentley, who moved to Spurs.

I've never been convinced about Downing, but he looked decent yesterday, and is certainly better than the wide options we currently have (ie none).

He is only 24, so I'd pay £14m and get the deal done.

Balls to Barry.

If Ince will pay £6m for Pennant I'll personally drive him to Ewood and drop him off.

Now all we need is some mug to pay £6m for Voronin and we're laughing.  :grinning:   :buttrock

I think the papers are having a laugh over the price though Dawson. £16MILLION for Downing!! I would buy him fo £10million, consider him for £12million but I dont think he is worth much more than that. Yes he's English and can actually score a few goals as well as get a few assists, BUT he's another player that seems quite happy just to cross the ball rather than trying to beat his man and get to the line.

Good player but not worth £16million

I'd rather pay 20mil and get him now than go the whole season without anyone. At least he is english though. When gerrard and carra retire we need that big british player that throughout history weve always had. All our legends are practically british and it would be sad, no matter how good he is, for torres to a massive legend over an english star.

:no

what's wrong with Torres becoming a liverpool legend over an english/british player? last time i checked we're not living in the 70's anymore... today's world is merit-based rather than nationality-based... get a grip... :no
