that it wasn't the biggest pile of w@nk that I've seen in a long time. I really don't want to go off on a rant about how bad this film turned out to be. I'm so disappointed. I've been a big time fan of the show since it first started, and I feel like Chris Carter has just plunged a dagger in my back. Mulder and Scully just didn't seem to be themselves, it was like they were different characters such was the thinness of the dire script. There were episodes that were 100 times better done than this dross. I'm gutted, because this surely means there will be no more films being made, and it's probably a good thing based on this.

4/10 and that's being kind, coming from a big fan of the series too. :(

I went to see X Files last night. And I have to disagree with you ER. I really enjoyed film. I too am a big fan of the series and I still watch it on cable (the re runs never get boring, lol). Yes I agree that they have both "aged", but its 6 years since the last episode was made and everyone ages sometime.
The plot for the film was good and kept me guessing for a while as to what was going on but Chris Carters imagination came up trumps again.

For me it was a great film so I'm going to give it 8/10

Different strokes I suppose. But had this been an episode back in the series' prime, it would have been one to avoid or to forget about. I'd have probably turned this over to see what was on the other side, it was that monotonous and dreary. I thought the writting was basically just a vehicle to remind fans about certain aspects of M&S's characters and to show them together on screen once more. For example, the start where Mulder is in his office and it shows him sticking posters and paper clippings on his wall beside the "I want to believe poster" he had just like back in his FBI office; the sunflower seeds; and then the camera pans up to show the pencils stuck on the ceiling. I mean, OK, Chris - we're fans of the show, and we know Mulder's little habits by now, so why make the effort to show them to us again? The entire film was like this.

Where was the explanation of what went on in the 6 year gap? They were hunted by the government and the FBI, so what did they do, just drop it? They were public enemy #1 FFS. And Skinner - he helped them escape in the last episode. So what, he just went and retained his job in the FBI? I thought it was a mess, and the plot should have been vastly different to what it was, and what it was wasn't very well written or explained. As I've said, the majority of episodes on TV were a lot sharper and a lot better than this film, and they had 6 years to come up with it.

Chris Carter should have never penned this. He wasn't even the best writer on the show. That credit goes to Darin Morgan (Flukeman in The Host). He singlehandedly dragged the show out of the mud and saved it from being axed due to his writing on the second series. He should have came up with a monster of the week story as he seems to know what the word paranormal means. Frankenstein experiments (which were done by the Nazis in fact) and a half-arsed psychic peado priest would have been the last things I'd have associated with a new X-Files film. So much for the 2012 invasion.

Watched that a while back and it is a good flick. Robert De Niro absolutely steals the show for me in a role that I'd never hae expected to see him in!!!  :D
