Brazilian fullback Rafinha is once again being linked with a possible transfer to Premier League side Liverpool.
He has long been linked with a move to the Merseyside giants with Reds boss Rafa Benitez a confirmed admirer of the Schalke right back.

With Alvaro Arbeloa being linked with a move back to Spain following a mystery £6 million bid, money could well be available for the purchase of Rafinha.

The Brazilian is also in dispute with his club at the moment over the Olympics, and his future at the Bundesliga club is far for certain.

He was called up by coach Carlos Dunga for the summer’s Olympic tournament, but was told by Schalke he couldn’t go.  However, Rafinha has gone against the club’s wishes and travelled regardless.

Any parting of the ways at the Veltins Arena will surely awake the interest of Liverpool amongst others.

The alarm bells have been set ringing for me over this guy following his decision to just walkout on his club to go to the Olympics. A lot of players that have been in conflict with their teams over international call ups have the decency to wait 'til FIFA or the Court of Arbitration steps in and says they can go. However the fact that this guy just ups and goes whether the club likes it or not make me ask the question, do we need a player with this kind of attitude at Anfield??  ???

No matter how good the lad is I think we'd be better off looking elsewhere.

I think its been a very contentious issue in Germany mate, not as simple as him just walking out on his club. Diego has had similar problems at Werder Bremen.  German clubs arbetrarily (sp) said the players couldn't go and its caused a hell of a row.

Even some of the genuine under 21 players (who have to be released under FIFA rules) are being told they can't go. While overage players like Diego and Rafina have been told they have no chance of being released.

^Thank God if that is true, because that would have been a terrible waste of money.  Now let's hope that Rafa can go for someone younger and more attacking.  Moutinho wouldn't be a bad choice.

He is pretty much signed sealed and delivered to Everton, and VDV is on his way to Madrid. We could have had both if we used the money that was going to be spent on Barry plus Pennant

That's so irritating.  Why are we chasing Barry, when there are better players out there being sold for less?  This is one transfer move that I do not agree with.

I think Barry will be good for us but its stupid paying so much for him when you see Bentley going for 17m today and a good winger is what we need.

Thats what i can't get my head around... id of loved to have Bentley at liverpool, and he wasnt even been mentioned. Rafa musn't rate him... we do need a quality winger though, dont no if we have the cash or are able make the cash available. Anybody got any other suggestions on who we should sign? People have said to me Shaun WP, but i'm not impressed.

Not that new just a new profile lost other details as been a long time since i was here but glad to be back!!!!

On your point Ben i think Rafa would rate Bentley as he's obviously got talent, but i have a sneaky feeling about something.

We all know discussions have been on going for weeks now about us getting Robbie Keane (which i'm thrilled about but that's another point) & i heard a rumour that Spur's would only sell to us if we agreed not to go after any of their targets!!!!!

I dont think Yossi fits into the gameplan for the future however we shouldnt ignore the fact he scored 11 goals last season.

Rovers cool Pennant rumours
31 Jul 2008 - 15:45:18

Rovers cool Pennant rumours Blackburn Rovers are being linked with Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant after allowing David Bentley to move to Tottenham.

Rovers have money to spend after Bentley's big-money exit, although some of the £15million Spurs paid for the former Arsenal trainee will be heading to the Emirates Stadium.

Manager Paul Ince's number two, Ray Mathias, told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "We'll be filling David Bentley's boots with a player of equal quality.

"I think in our time in management, the gaffer has shown that he likes wingers who've got pace and can get good crosses into the box.

"We'll certainly be looking at that sort of player and getting someone with a lot of quality.

"The papers make a lot of speculation. I'm sure there have been other people (apart from Pennant) mentioned as well."

Former Arsenal and Birmingham City winger Pennant has spent the last two seasons at Anfield.

The 25-year-old has found the net three times in 77 appearances for the Reds but may be sold this summer as Liverpool attempt to find the funds to land Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry.
