"Liverpool are expected to complete the £3million signing of Palmeiras goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri after sources in Brazil confirmed the player completed his medical on Tuesday and a work permit has been acquired. (Press Association, 1121 BST)"

looks like a dead cert, 3mill for a back up keeper!! ???

Sorry but i reackon thats a waste of cash!, (he's only 3  month younger than Reina)

There be plenty of good back ups on a free, especially with Prem experience!!

If we decide to sell Carson in view of this deal he must be worth in excess of 12mill

He´s had a blinder of a season with Palmeiras and is reckoned to be equal or better than Reina. My Brazilian colleagues and fanatic Palmeiras fans say we´ve got the bargain of the season for a premium of 1 million over what we sold the other lad for and suggest we can cash in Reina to Real Madrid whatever - thats the level of confidence they have in Cavalieri.

Lets get some perspective before slagging off YET ANOTHER new player ffs.

easy tiger, re-read the post, i never slagged the lad off,

i was shocked at his price tag,

Unproven at the high level in which we play, and therefore expensive at 3mill.

I hope he is a blinding keeper, but will have to go a long way in being better than Pepe.

Coming to the crux of my point "a waste of money" the same our pursuit of Barry.

Spending 3 million isnt a waste when you could sell him on for at least the same value if not probably more in 2 years, its business.

The lad is class and 3 million sounds cheap.  It might help pay for the stadium.

Surely we never got 3 million for him.

He is terrible and if they watched any games he played for us they wouldnt want him on a free.

6 million is the most we would get for carson i reckon .
Nothing against this lad but there are proven keepers out there who have played in the premier league and available on the free , and one of them is anti niemi , a superb keeper who would be a great backup

In fairness to IRRF I think he makes a good point. Regardless of how good this fella has looked in the Brazillian League or wherever else he plies his trade, what are the odds that he will be a better bet than Anti Neimi or Maik Taylor as back up? There is the chance of course, it has to be acknowledged that he could prove to be a World beater. The odds though are against it I'm afraid, and at 3 million I too think it's money we could probably better spend elsewhere.

As a wee add on, I just watched a "you tube" clip of the fella. From what I've seen, the team he plays for never conceded a single goal last season, the kid saves absolutely everything. He must have saved thirty shots, ten headers and two penalties in 3 mins 14 secs. aside for the observation that he does look better than itanje or whatever the feck his name is, and the team he used to play for seriously need to work on their defending, it was hard to draw any cast-iron conclusions from the clip.

Big Mick, he would be better than Maik Taylor because after this Brazilian has had enough of being a back up keeper, and shows some good signs in the league cup, we can sell him off for a profit. After a couple of years of Maik Taylor and he would retire. ALthough those older keepers have loads of experience and are still probably good keppers, there isn't much motivation for them to stay on top of their game once they have signed their last contract and know that the majority of the time they will be on the bench.
