Funny how quickly people forget the brilliance of Owen at his peak.

I agree - we need another hero, but lets not carried away after less than one season.

torres by a mile for me, especially in today's game.

in the current climate, strikers like owen have gone out of fashion somewhat. strikers need to have more in their armoury.

owen 1999-2002 was probably one of the best 3 strikers in world football, especially when it came to out and out goalscoring. however the game has evolved now and to be a main striker, the majority of teams want you to have strength, movement and be able to put the ball in the net. you also need to be able to play upfront on your own if necessary. owen thrives on service. torres can make something out of nothing for himself.

Torres has definately made his mark at Anfield.

He has pace and is exciting to watch. He is enthusiastic and is settling in well to his role up front and is delivering the goals.
But is an unselfish striker and an asset to the team. And atm seems to abound in confidence.

I also agree with St Mick...'he can make something out of nothing'...

On the whole I think he is better than Owen was. (I was put off Owen when he had his 'diving' spat)...

So Torres for me and may he go from strength ot strength for us!  :)

I have to opt for Torres for the simple fact his head is at liverpool and not his national side.
However i cant deny that owen was a great player for us but torres adds alot more.

i'll put it another way.

pick a front two from the following:

fowler (1995-98)- easily the best finisher around. scored 30+ goals three seasons running.

owen (1998-2002)- was in the top three strikers in europe at that time imo, culminating in being crowned european footballer of the year in 2001. whatever you say about the guy he actually had a better goals per games ratio than fowler.

torres (2007-current)- probably the most complete striker we have had in years. doesn't have a weakness and has become the top scoring foreigner ever in their first premiership season.

i guarantee you that the majority will go for fowler and torres.

Owen spent quite a bit more time injured, Torres was very lucky with that regard.

It's not a fair question anyway, the recency effect is bound to have people remembering what happened last season more fondly than many seasons ago.
