it would appear that not many fans are going judging ny the report in the echo
THOUSANDS of Liverpool fans will miss out on a trip to the FA Cup Final after the Football Association booked up almost a third of the seats.
Anfield officials were yesterday told both Liverpool and rivals West Ham had been initially allocated just 24,400 tickets each at the 74,000 capacity Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
It will leave Liverpool fans with 5,000 fewer seats than they filled at the semi final at Old Trafford, and 1,400 tickets fewer than at the club's last FA Cup Final in 2001.
Yesterday, the FA defended its decision to block-book around 23,000 tickets, many which will be allocated for the association's own corporate hospitality suites, for the final on May 13.
Others will go to clubs and county FAs across the country.
Supporters hit out last night after tickets for Liverpool seats, officially meant to sell for between £25 to £90, appeared on the internet for £950.
The Cardiff Millennium Stadium holds 74,000 at capacity, but that is being cut to 72,000 for the final, to allow security barriers to separate opposing supporters.
The new Wembley stadium - which was due to host the final before falling behind schedule - will eventually hold 90,000 people, easily allowing 28,000 tickets for each club on top of the FA's 24,000.
LFC spokesman Ian Cotton said the FA's "odd" maths meant at least 3,600 of Liverpool's 27,000 season ticket holders will have no chance of going to the game.
Meanwhile, West Ham fans will have access to 6,400 more seats than the 18,000 they had at their semi final.
Les Lawson, secretary of the Merseyside branch of the official Liverpool supporters' club said he feared many of the FA-allocated tickets would be re-sold on the black market.
He said: "There's going to be a massive panic now among fans, because there simply won't be enough tickets.
"Its going to cause a higher price on the black market and the majority of the money will go to people who are out to make a quick buck, not the real fans."
Mr Lawson said he believed Liverpool would need at least 27,500 tickets to satisfy fans' expectations.
He criticised the decision to increase West Ham's allocation by 6,400, while cutting Liverpool's by 5,000, something which it is understood has left the Anfield hierarchy deeply frustrated.
He said: "It would make sense if they allocated it on the same lines as the number of tickets each club had for the semis.
"Even if they had given West Ham 2,000 more than at the semi final, they could have given us 2,000 more, and West Ham couldn't complain as they would still have more than at their semi.
"I can't understand why they haven't taken that into account."
He added: "Once again this is typical of the FA, it's about time they started looking after the fans who go through the turnstiles and support the clubs week in week out.
"Many of this extra 30% who'll get the FA allocation only want to go to the big games, and a lot of the tickets will end up on the black market."
But a spokesman for the FA said fans would receive more tickets than at other major games, like the UEFA Cup Final, where each club receives 8% of the ticket allocation.
He said: "The clubs have been told about our initial allocations, but that may change before the event.
