Nottingham Forest are continuing with their attempt to build a side worthy of competing in The Championship by signing Paul Anderson on loan from Liverpool.

The 19-year-old wide man was also wanted by Swansea City, where he spent some time last season, but he will see out the 2008/2009 campaign with Forest following their promotion from League One.

Colin Calderwood has been impressed with the former Hull City midfielder and managed to beat off The Swans to seal his signature.

"I enjoyed last season at Swansea but, after speaking to Forest, I just felt it was the right move for me," Anderson told Forest's official website.

"I'm joining a big club in Forest and I am very excited about the challenge of trying to help them make an impact in The Championship."

AZ are fed up with departure talents to Arsenal and Liverpool
26/06/2008 08:59

AZ have lost two talents. Oguzhan Ozyakup (15) goes to Arsenal and Vincent Weijl (17) to Liverpool. The English clubs only need to pay AZ Alkmaar a compensation fee.

AZ are fed up with the loss of the two talents and the way the clubs recruited them.

Arsenal and Liverpool have already an agreement with the players, although the clubs have informed AZ not yet officially.

Striker Weijl played for Ajax and AFC before he came to AZ, midfielder Ozyakup came at AZ by means of a Zaandam amateur club

I confess to talking through my pocket to an extent as Italy were my main wager after they'd got beat 3-0 by the Dutch (12/1 on betfair, good price and all that) but even so. Fortunately, such was the obvious ineptitude of their lone striker that long before they got put out on penalties by Spain I had already decamped a bit of cash onto alternative options.

I re-iterate though and conclude with a Sabre style quote. If Luca Toni ever plays football in the English Premiership he will be a total flop as he is useless.

Totally agree with you mick, i said it in the euros thread, he looked like a big yard dog.
No pace, no composure.
If he got 30 odd in the bundesliga last season it mustnt be that great a league.
Put Crouch in that Bayern team instead of toni, he would be player of the season.

You must be joking ace?  :D

Crouch is no were near the player Toni is! Even if Crouch plays in Bayern, he won't score as many as Toni because he doesn't attack the ball in the penalty box enough as Toni does, so his link up play with Ribery wouldn't be as effective. Toni is a good striker, he doesn't waste the ball or lose it in possesion. He also closes down defenders very well (for example against France) and keeps them worried. He is top notch in the air and his finishing is excellent (not with Italy, but with Bayern :D). He doesn't need pace to be a good striker, he is quick enough to play the ball into his teammates.

The only reason that Toni isn't doing well with Italy because he doesn't fit in the Italy system that Donadoni uses! the same as Torres not fitting in the spanish system. They aren't getting the best of him.

but saying Crouch would be player of the season ace, sorry, utter b*llox (as you english say)  :D

I guess we'll just have to agree to differ. I think it's probably worth considering the relative strength of the league though before getting the bunting out about scoring records. The Dutch league ain't that strong either and I remember Kuyt scoring extremely regularly there, unfortunately once he got himself involved in a decent league the goals dried up before too long. Similarly the German League is currently not of a high standard and therefore any achivements by Toni while playing for the strongest team in the league must be placed firmly into context.

It is this, and the fact that during the Euro's he was absolutely sh!t which has led me to believe that he is a limited player. With the greatest respect, even though he hasn't displayed his club form there is absolutely no comparison whatsoever to Torres at these championships and Toni. Though it's not really happening for him, you can still see Torres is a top player. You can tell that from where he goes, when he goes there, how quickly he gets there, his first touch, his awareness, his technique. Toni on the other hand proved that he is quite tall.

Still not sure about Silva, he seems more luis Garcia than John Barnes, surely we need at least one class winger who not scared of getting chalk on his boots.

Not a type of striker we are looking for, same class as voronin.

I don't like him, he spent on the bench with Bayern because he was sh*te!  :D

He wastes the ball, isn't intelligence enough and his first touch isn't up to it either.
