They have been magnificent, superb passing and movement and with better finishing should be about 5 nil up, Sweden look like the old men that they are but i dont think anyone expected Russia to take them apart quiet so easily.
Should make for a very interesting Holland Russis game where the dutch on the counter should be too much.
But you never know, love the way the russian fullbacks have got forward so much its been a joy to watch these today.
That much i havent even bothered checking the Spain score  :D

Yeah i did and was very impressed!
Some of the football was amazing, they just tortured Sweden from start to finish.
Arshavin coming back made a big difference, what clever player. That other forward Pavyuchencko(sp) looks a good un as well. Those two together with their runs and movement off the ball will make chances against ANY team they play. Some good players and all big hearts!
Holland will have a game on their hands, should be a good match.
Well done Russia, excellent display tonight,Was'nt expecting that!! :buttrock

Russia game was decent.

Arshavin would fit right in at Liverpool, what a crafty/creative player.

Beautiful football from Russia, Arshavin's presence definitely made a difference.  The next game against Holland should be really great for the eyes.  COME ON RUSSIA!!!

Excellent performance from Russia, quick tempo, succinct passing.

Impenetrable in defense too. Sweden were almost exclusively attritional in their strategy, and Russia simply absorbed any pressure from crosses. They played with no width, and had no outlet on the wings. They rarely ventured in behind Russia, which is the only real way of beating a team with such a solid core, and who set their stall out second half. When Sweden brought Alback on I thought that was it - sticking with the same rigid, unrewarding strategy I thought they had very little chance of getting a lifeline.

On Russia, I was very surprised given their performance against Spain, but it seems they play better against the more rigid teams.

There were five or six Russian players who caught my eye, Arshavin of course, but also Pavlyuchenko, Zyrianov, Anyukov and Zhirkov, Sychev's a neat little player too.

They showed great character, focus, desire and in reality it should've been four or five nil.

It should be some game against Holland, two teams with really good technical ability, organisation and desire. Holland have more quality and cutting edge though, so I still fancy them.

I'll add

3/ Zidane was one of the best players of the decade. His absence is a tough gap to fill again.

I was referring to factors within their control mate (e.g. Flamini and Sagna weren't even selected), their capacity to play better was massive even with the squad they selected.

Lando, our red midfielder did a good job,

All right he didn't score from his own side of the pitch by a couple of inches, but he left the greek goalie's eggs smashed against the post. It hurted :D

BTW, he was the captain, I don't remember a Basque captain for ages!

Yes, Spain is gonna lose against Italy anyway, but the more he plays, the more we get should we sell him eventually.

Russia were indeed awesome today and should have won by quite a bigger margin. Arshavin again (like when I've seen him play for Zenith) looked really really good. Would love to see us try to get him, though there'll probably be a fair amount of clubs after him, if he continues like today throughout the tournament. Great pace, skill and strength on the ball, excellent movement and an ability to pick out clever little passes. All things which we could really do with in our team  :;):

metalhead wrote:I dont think Toni was as bad as you think Ace, he did well, very very unlucky not to score. His movment and touch was fantastic tonight and always was trouble for the defence, he got the penalty.

De Rossi bossed the midfield today, excellent player.

France were cr@p, Domenich is an idiot, he should have started Benzema long before, he was excellent today, the only french player who was dangerous.

He was dog poo mate and has been in all three games, how he scored 30 odd last season is beyond me. He looks slow, his first touch hasnt been bad, but the french gave him acres last night and his finishing was atrocious.
The one in the first couple of minutes when Abidal missed the header and he dragged it wide one on one was terrible.
He must of been clean through about 3-4 times and his composure and finishing was awful.
With a better striker Italy would of won that by 4 last night and the game should of been buried by half time.
Thought De Rossi was decent carrying the ball but when he attempted cross field passes 2 or 3 times they went about 10 yards over the player he was attempting to hits head into the crowd.
I have been very disappointed with the italians and Donadoni with his selections and substitutions.
Not sure who is in the squad but when they were playing against an ageing 10 man France in the second half why didnt he bring on another striker or an attacking player like Van basten did the other day, they were there for the taking.

Woah :D

I don't think he was that cr@p!! I thought other players were cr@p. Yeh he missed loads of chances, but he was the only striker who actually was a threat against other teams!

I agree with you about Donadoni's team selection, and about putting an attacking player, he did put in Aquilani (sp?) who is a good attacking midfielder, but they needed Totti I think, he would have made a difference and there isn't alot of good italian strikers at the moment except for Toni.

I thought De Rossi, Tactically, was excellent, especially the way he tackled, won the ball and read the game.
