Well it looks loke we can put the Quasema rumour to bed aswell
Liverpool are not contemplating Quaresma move
We’ve had a huge number of e-mails asking if Ricardo Quaresma is on his way to Anfield. It's obviously a steadily growing rumour amongst Liverpool fans, so we’ve decided to tackle it here.
The following question is typical of the hundreds we have received:
Reading your previous replies Guillem, are you suggesting that Benitez is going to be signing a 'desequilibrante? This is word I have never heard before today but saw Benitez's description on his Euro 2008 Blog. I think that Quaresma falls under the category of player that Rafa was describing (talented but goes missing). Mac. Bath. UK.
Guillem says:
Thanks for all your questions guys. Everyone is asking me about Quaresma and, since I said it the other day, a lot of people have been asking who Liverpool's magical and unpredictable signing (desequilibrante) is going to be.
Well, as I said at the time, this is the kind of player that I would love to see Liverpool sign and I feel they could really do with. However, this is not the kind of signing that Rafa usually makes and I don’t think he will change his mind this summer. I don’t think he doubts Quaresma’s abilities on the pitch, even though the player can be inconsistent.
However, there are issues off the pitch and that is why it is not a signing that Liverpool are contemplating.
Ricardo Quaresma has a very difficult entourage and, despite the fact he is desequilibrante, that is, he is skilful and can produce magic, his background creates enough doubts for Liverpool to prevent them from spending 20-25 million pounds on him.
People, you must forget about new signings at the level of Fernando Torres. The club doesn’t need those players as urgently as it needs restructuring itself in a way that in a few years it can create enough income to be able to always get the first choices that the manager wants in the transfer market.
For instance, Aaron Ramsey could have been a Liverpool player three months ago, but now the club cannot compete with what Manchester United or Arsenal are offering. If shops around the world don’t run out of Liverpool shirts; if commercial deals are done to produce four times more money than comes in now; if the club is run a bit more professionally, then not only can you guarantee a progression in the near future, you will also be able to keep the manager in the long term. Otherwise, we will see.
