With boss Steve Bruce struggling to sign Egyptian hitman Amr Zaki, Wigan have been sounded out by Marseille about bringing former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse back to the Premier League. (Daily Mail)

I suppose it would be nice to see Djib back in the Premiership. Imagin it will be him and Heskey up front. All they need to do now is sign Diouf  :D

Well it looks loke we can put the Quasema rumour to bed aswell

Liverpool are not contemplating Quaresma move

We’ve had a huge number of e-mails asking if Ricardo Quaresma is on his way to Anfield. It's obviously a steadily growing rumour amongst Liverpool fans, so we’ve decided to tackle it here.

The following question is typical of the hundreds we have received:

Reading your previous replies Guillem, are you suggesting that Benitez is going to be signing a 'desequilibrante? This is word I have never heard before today but saw Benitez's description on his Euro 2008 Blog. I think that Quaresma falls under the category of player that Rafa was describing (talented but goes missing). Mac. Bath. UK.

Guillem says:

Thanks for all your questions guys. Everyone is asking me about Quaresma and, since I said it the other day, a lot of people have been asking who Liverpool's magical and unpredictable signing (desequilibrante) is going to be.

Well, as I said at the time, this is the kind of player that I would love to see Liverpool sign and I feel they could really do with. However, this is not the kind of signing that Rafa usually makes and I don’t think he will change his mind this summer. I don’t think he doubts Quaresma’s abilities on the pitch, even though the player can be inconsistent.

However, there are issues off the pitch and that is why it is not a signing that Liverpool are contemplating.

Ricardo Quaresma has a very difficult entourage and, despite the fact he is desequilibrante, that is, he is skilful and can produce magic, his background creates enough doubts for Liverpool to prevent them from spending 20-25 million pounds on him.

People, you must forget about new signings at the level of Fernando Torres. The club doesn’t need those players as urgently as it needs restructuring itself in a way that in a few years it can create enough income to be able to always get the first choices that the manager wants in the transfer market.

For instance, Aaron Ramsey could have been a Liverpool player three months ago, but now the club cannot compete with what Manchester United or Arsenal are offering. If shops around the world don’t run out of Liverpool shirts; if commercial deals are done to produce four times more money than comes in now; if the club is run a bit more professionally, then not only can you guarantee a progression in the near future, you will also be able to keep the manager in the long term. Otherwise, we will see.

Barcelona alerted to Torres unrest at Liverpool
Tuesday 10 June 2008 - 13:06:32

Stories are beginning to emerge that Fernando Torres is far from being a settled player at Liverpool.

Efforts by Rafa Benitez to calm any fears surrounding Torres appear to have backfired by his admission that he has spoken with Torres agent about his own future at the club.

Barcelona will be alerted to any possibility of Torres becoming available as will Chelsea and a host of other teams but it is Barcelona that would seen as favourites if the situation deteriorates even further at Anfield.

Liverpool posted a £33 million pound loss and that confirms that Benitez has to sell to purchase but that is the least of the worries for Liverpool, the morale of Torres at the club is now open to question.

Benitez confirmed that he has reassured Torres agent that he is in fact staying at the club.

“Fernando’s agent has asked about my Liverpool future and my answer is that I am 100% committed.

The fact that Torres agent had to ask is worrying and secondly it also shows that Torres will stay at Liverpool only while Benitez remains, a fact that wont be lost on Chelsea who may well see that if they can persuade Benitez to become the coach they will also get Torres.

However all said and done it is Barcelona that would jump in with a monster offer to secure the Spanish strikers services, Barcelona wanted him before he went to Liverpool but had already made other purchases and were top heavy in the striker department at that time.

But Barcelona will be offloading both their main two strikers in Ronaldinho and Eto‘o, Thierry Henry has hardly impressed and looks past his sell by date and Gudjohnson is another seen as surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp and so a new forward is on the Barcelona hit list.

Barcelona may well be tempted to test the waters with a huge offer and test Liverpool’s determination to keep their star striker.

I agree with the Quaresma bit of his comments and think he is spot on about Benitez's reticence to sign him..... a hesitance I share btw.

The bit I highlighted in bold though, I find a little strange. He seems to be suggesting that Rafa is the key to our future success and that we'll fall apart without him and as such we need to do everything in our power to keep him..... Which is utter boll0cks imo...... The key to our success is the removal of Hicks and Gillette. There are  others out there who can bring us fourth every year.....    :glare:

Not buying this at all.  The only quote in this is the one from Benitez about speaking to Torres' agent.  Then arms and legs have been added on.

This is a prime example of the the press latching on to one grain of truth and making a :censored:' totally different story out of it!

Spain hat-trick hero David Villa paid tribute to strike partner Fernando Torres following Tuesday's 4-1 drubbing of Russia, even though the Liverpool man again failed to get on the scoresheet for his country.

Immediately after slotting the ball past Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev to complete his treble 15 minutes from time, Villa raced to the Spain bench to embrace Torres, who had been substituted in the 54th minute and replaced by Cesc Fabregas.

That was the third Spain match in just over a week where Torres has been taken off early, with coach Luis Aragones substituting the Liverpool striker at half-time in both friendly matches against the United States and Peru.

Torres has now failed to score in each of those three matches - albeit whilst not always at peak fitness - and although he has been prolific during his first season at Liverpool, he has notched just once for his country since 2006.

All that has led to speculation about the striker's ability to perform for Spain the way he does for Liverpool, but Villa was keen to show Torres he is fully behind the former Atletico Madrid man.

'The first two goals were with the help of Torres,' said Villa. 'You saw what happened with the first one and with the second he opened the space so (Andres) Iniesta could make the pass to me.

'I think he had a very important game, he's a key player to us and I wanted to dedicate that third goal to make him happy.'

Villa's treble, with the goals coming in the 20th, 45th and 75th minutes, ensured Spain got off to a flying start in their bid to win their first European Championships since 1964.

That performance earned Villa the man-of-the-match award, but the Valencia man was more pleased with the fact that it took Spain a step closer to the quarter-finals.

'More than anything I am happy with the three points that give us a lot of options to continue to the next phase, and of course I am very happy to have scored the goals as well,' said Villa, whose role in the Spain side and compatibility with Torres was an area of debate heading into the tournament.

'My aim is continue helping the national team, to work hard to try and score more goals. I want to play as much as possible.'

Spain coach Aragones spoke glowingly about both his strikers, saying: 'Villa has played very well, he scored three goals and could have scored more.

'Torres also did a good job, especially in the first two goals. I am happy with the team.'

The club has to put in a serious bid for Villa, they work well together, and seem to be good friends. If he came to us we won't be out of the title race before christmas again you can quote me on that.
