Rafa "too abrasive" for owen - Wtf?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Awww...did he raise his voice to you ickle Mikey?

This from realmadrid.dk

Liverpool striker Michael Owen is enthusiastic about a move to Real Madrid.

A Real insider told the Independent that club's directors were surprised with his desire to leave Liverpool.

While Owen was one of the major influences in Liverpool appointing manager Rafa Benitez over the summer, its emerged that the England striker has found the Spaniard far too abrasive for his liking.

Benitez has already shifted out 12 players from previous manager Gerard Houllier's squad.

Whilst I too am diisappointed that Michael Owen is set to leave Liverpool FC lets not turn his leaving into an opportunity to rip the man apart hey ? ???

At Liverpool we are bigger than that and I sincerely hope that echoes on this forum although I'm not optimistic that it will be so..........

Vent your spleen if you must but lets not get too personal on Owen , he's served LFC well over the years and cost us nothing.

Walk on ....

Hey, I'm as gutted as anyone that this deal's suddenly looking more likely, but if the fact that the new gaffer is "abrasive" is anything to do with him wanting to leave, that just staggers me. It's nothing personal, I just find that a seriously unimpressive reason to leave a football club that has paid you more than handsomely from your teens into your mid 20s.

Christ, I shudder to think what he'd have made of Brian Clough as a manager.

I hope everyone follows that example and thanks Michael for what he has given the fans in his time at Liverpool. A legend he will remain in my eyes forever :)

I don't want to bag him but I am saddened at the way he is leaving. All his empty promises re a new contract etc and seeming not to care about the club only himself. I will try to remember his magnificent contribution and wonderful goals but it is tainted now.

i have nothing to say against owen's performance on the pitch.  He always played well and gave it his all.  Yet, i find it confusing that he said, only last week, he was happy at Liverpool and wanted to stay and play inthe Champions league for us?  Why give a 10 min speech of how he had been at Liverpool since he was 11 and was loyal?  Owen........why? :suspect:

A bit of abrasiveness is what this club needs given the decline it's suffrered.. it about time some of these pre-madonna's were treated as fooballers and not bottles of perfumes... where did I get that saying from ???

Hiya Mate , you wil hear countless different accounts if Michael leaves LFC from benitez to being to oabrasive to owen having  an affair etc.....

My point wasn't about WHY he is leaving just what i think the reaction should be to a player who, lets face it could have left on a  number of occasions when we weren't exactly settling the football world alight.   :Oo:

But he chose to stay and became for many of us just about the only reason to go watch Liverpool (Gerard Excepted).

Bottom line is if he goes is he wants to further his career elsewhere and as long as it isn't Man u or another Prem club then i think we ought to wish him well ...

I don't know, but I think you mean prima donnas. Pre-madonnas were Suzi Quatro and Toyah Willcox. :p

Probably because Liverpool FC's attitude and approach with him has changed and he has realised he can't wrap Benitez round his finger like he did Houllier......

Why do most people leave one employer for another ? Better prospects in their eyes yes, but more often than not it comes down to personality and feeling wanted .....
