Rafa Benitez looks favourite to land the Blackburn and England wide man this summer.
‘Bentley, who has made clear his intention to displace David Beckham, feels that a move to the Reds would significantly enhance his international prospects’
Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley is said to favour a summer move to Liverpool.
A whole host of clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle, are reported to be monitoring the 23 year-old, but sources close to the player have revealed that he has his heart set on a switch to Anfield.
This will come as a blow to Blackburn manager Mark Hughes, who sees the player as an integral part of the club’s future.
Bentley, who has made clear his intention to displace David Beckham and secure a permanent berth on the right of England’s midfield, feels that a move to the Reds would significantly enhance his international prospects.
Liverpool need only two more points from their remaining three games to secure a Champions League berth again next season, while Blackburn look certain to miss out on a UEFA Cup spot.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will have funds available to move for Bentley in the summer, despite simmering tensions within the club at boardroom level. It is also thought the Spaniard is looking to offload winger Jermaine Pennant who, despite scoring at the weekend, has struggled to keep down a regular place in the side this season.
