He'd be ideal in our 4-3-3 at the moment.

They just wupped Bayer Leveruken 4-1 away.

Arshavin scored the first and helped in the others.
He's skillfull and very pacey and a great playmaker.
He played inside both left and right channels brilliantly.

Mate, I watched the highlights and was blown away by this kid. He looked fantastic, in fact i was just coming on here to say hey 'look at this guy' and you beat me to it. I know they all look good on You Tube but i've been having a look at his highlight real. He's a class act plus what is he doing at Zenit? I'm hoping Skrtel has been in Rafa's ear about this lad.

He looks quick, strong, very creative, weighs in with his share of goals and versatile enough to play out wide or as a 2nd striker. Just what we're looking for.

How much money do you actually think we'll have to spend bearing in mind the state of our ownership situation at the moment? + how many times in our history have we spent £20 mill + on one player? 10-12 million is enough to get someone better than what we have at the moment + if there was no limit to the spend then we'd have all the champ.man idiots on here suggesting all the usual A-Listers that we could never afford.

Hello,
i am an italian fan of Torino FC (http://www.torinofc.it) and i like english football very much.
I watched many Liverpool matches and i don't think that you have a 4-3-3, it seems more a 4-2-3-1 in offensive play and a 4-5-1 in defensive play, am i wrong ?

What are our best players worth/did they cost?

Torres £21m+
Gerrard £20m+
Mascherano £18m?

We keep wasting £5m-£10m here and there and we'll be no further on than we are, unless Rafa suddenly becomes Wengerlike and finds bargains which frankly hasn't looked remotely likely so far.

So we either accept our lot in life and talk up title challenges in August and write them off come November, OR we find the money somehow and spend it. We can offload half a dozen players to raise the cash for one or two - Pennant, Crouch, Kuyt, Riise and one or two others may not fetch £10m each, but what's the point in keeping players not good enough when we can simply play the same XI most of the time and use a smaller squad supplemented by youngsters.

Or put another way, we can have 10-15 players costing £6m average or spend that £60m-£90m on 5 solid players capable of making us title contenders.

Wasn't it Drogba or Cisse that were the names linked - and we ended up with the duffer. Of course that shows that it is worth paying that bit extra for extra quality, the most expensive Premiership signings don't have too many flops

£30m Shevchenko (Chelsea) - more money than sense
£30m Ferdinand (Man Utd) - over-rated, but one of the best defenders in English football
£28m Veron (Man Utd) - flop bigtime, but fergie was trying to buy the Champions League
£25m Rooney (Man Utd) - unfortunately the money went to the bitters
£24m Essien (Chelsea) - not a bad player
£24m Drogba (Chelsea) - one of the top five strikers in England - probably
£21m Torres (LIVERPOOL) - best striker around at the moment
£21m Wright-Phillips (Chelsea) - again they paid too much, but still a good player
£20m Carvalho (Chelsea) - can look a bit dodgy at times
£19m Van Nistelrooy (Man Utd) - diving cheat, but knew how to score from six yards and the penalty spot

And of course £18m could get you a Mascherano, Carrick, Anderson................... £17m could get you an Owen or Owen (Hargreaves)

If you ignore the silly money £28m+ spendings, the quality is in those costing £20m-£25m.

Nah mate, we were never linked with Drogba around the time we bought Cisse.  In fact Drogba was being touted around to Premiership clubs for around 3 million before Marseille took a gamble on him, then he seemed to transform as a player during their UEFA cup run.

I think Southampton were the club that actually turned him down for 3 million, bet they are gutted.

Drogba has turned out a great player, but I have to admit I thought he was a massive waste of money at the time by Chelsea.  In fact even after Drogba's first season at Chelsea it looked like they had been stroked by Marseille.

However I do agree with your opinion that 20+ million usually does guarantee quality.

Says it all that GH supposedly knew the French leagues and the players within and we ended up with Cisse, Pongolle, Le Tallec, Vignal, Cheyrou, Diouf, Smicer etc.

Houllier's French Connection

Diouf (Lens) £10m
Camara (Marseille) £2.6m
Cheyrou (Lille) £3.7m
Pongolle (Le Havre) £3.0m
Le Tallec (Le Havre) £3.0m
Traore (Laval) £500k
Diao (Sedan) £5m
Smicer (Lens) £4.2m
Diomede (Auxerre) £3.0m
Vignal (Montpellier) £500k
Riise (Monaco) £4.6m
Cisse (Auxerre) £14m

I've heard various figures for FSP and ALT, but I've gone with one I remember which was £6m the pair. If those figures are correct or thereabouts, GH spent £54.1m on players from the French leagues. How many of them were any good?

"There are only two teams in Liverpool; Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves"

And the bitters paid £11m for the yak, despite them claiming to be flying high on no money their squad cost over £50m to assemble.

Sign this lad. In youtube you always can spot good talents in a few minutes

Wonder goal

Zaragoza 0 - 3 Betis.

The lad first scores a header, and then he makes a wonder goal after dribbling 3 opposition defenders with pace, and a good finnish.

Sign him up, his name is Mark Gonzalez.

Oh, wait a minute :D

P.S. I couldn't help to bring this wonder goal of Mark for a bit of fun, sorry.
