redtrader74 wrote:The question of Pennants quality is frustrating, on one hand he DOES put balls in, and TBPH they are ok, but we never ever have enough bodies attacking the ball in the box, infact i'd go as far as saying that as a team we are one of the worst in the prem at doing it, especially if Hyypia's not playing. So in some ways his crosses can look bad not because of him, but because of his teamates. On the other hand every time i have watched him live he has been a lazy bast@rd, he rarely moves that 2-3 yds to make himself available and make an angle for a pass, thereby increasing pressure on his teamate, usually the fullback. On the ball he does a bit, off it he does not, and as part of the forward line his goalscoring is abysmal, a decent winger who plays 30 games a season should weigh in with 6+ goals.

Having also seen the idiot in a bar, and the way he acted, with a load of hangers on, i come to the conclusion he is just plain thick. Lack of money and Kewells body being made from balsa wood may mean that the logical conclusion being a left winger will be bought before a right winger, unless ofcourse the replacement can be bought at a price similar to what we could get for Pennant.

TBH mate I don't see any point in bringing in another cheap winger, I think we have to push the boat out and bring in top quality, obviously it would be nice if we could find that quality for the price of Pennant but unlikely.

I would rather go on a 3 year building program of buying a couple of top quality players every year rather than scattering the money and getting 5 players every year that arn't much better than we already have. Maybe 2 top quality and one with huge potential for the future? The problem being it seems players with real potential seem to cost almost as much as the top players at the moment.

Hopefully we will get the money to bring in the quality we want sooner than that, but even if DIC take over I can't see them doing an Abramovich.

The problem is our rivals wont be standing still while we are rebuilding, and I expect the mancs will probably buy a top striker in the summer, and Chelsea no doubt spend big again.

I have been hugely disappointed with the squad this season, players I had high hopes for (Aurelio, Arbeloa, Leto) haven't stepped up, and others have taken a definite step backwards(Finnan, Alonso, Kuyt, Crouch). Lucas has probably been the one pleasant surprise for me this season, as I didn't expect him to get much game time at all. Babel has flattered to deceive more than sparkled, with Gerrard ,Mascherano and Torres fighting for player of the season.

Benayoun, Pennant and Voronin ,I never really held out much hope that they could change our fortunes anyway.

Quality not quantity for next season.

Indeed quality over quantity without doubt Saint, i just don't see the money being available to buy more than one top player, which i think by consensus is another striker on Torres' level. Even the sales of Riise, Voronin, Kuyt, Carson will raise maybe £15m, we'd have to get to the CL final and sell a high value player where we have a replacement EG. Alonso, now we have Lucas, and then we might just be able to fund a striker and winger. Add to that the price of Mascherano, who is a must.

BTW Arbeloa has been pretty good IMO, especially considering he has played all along the back four.

I would sell:-
Carson - £6M
Pennant or Benayoun - £5M
Hyypia - £1M
Kuyt or Crouch £5-10M
Itandje -£1m

I would like to sell a lot more but we need to keep some experienced players. We would get nothing for Kewell so may as well keep him. Alonso I would only sell if we really need the money and it meant we could bring in a top class player to strengthen elsewhere. Finnan hopefully hasn't had his day just yet.

Arbeloa really impressed me last season, I don't think he has managed to maintain that form this season. A good utility player and backup but not really a first team player for me at the moment.

With the usual £25million or so from whoever owns us, we should have around £40million, which in turn should get us 2 top players and maybe one with potential. Maybe a swop deal of Alonso for Eto'o may come up again :D

What do you think of Benzema ? Looked pretty good against manure and is keeping fred out of the lyon team.

My take, we should snap him before the other big clubs do... he is the perfect foil for torres...

I only saw the goal, but anyone who scores against the mancs can't be all bad. If he is keeping Fred out of the team he must be a good player. I don't think there will be a shortage of candidates for Torres partner though, maybe just a shortage of cash to buy them.

Just had a quick read up on him, says he can play striker or either wing, and he's only 20. Might be worth a look, how much do you think he would cost?

Benzema definitely looks the business.  Rumour is that the Mancs are sniffing around him, though.

I would defo prefer one top class player for £20m instead of three players for £7m of the Bellamy/Pennant standard. Not Rafa's way though - he believes in quantity which is needed for a big squad is needed for his pathetic rotation system.

Even though he's on a reported £60 grand a week  ??? .

Not sure how long he's got left on his contract (anybody know ?) but bet my bottom dollar he'll wind it down and f'uck off on a free, picking up a fat signing on fee in the process.
